i had 1955 chev and the fan belt broke and i took my wife panties hose and tied them around the pulleys and drove that baby home. worked great. all so you can use the med juice can to put over your radiator hose and tape each end, to get you home. use blackpepper to stop a hole in your radiator. steve

My greatest fix was when I stomped too hard on the accelerator and broke the cable. I had a friend hold the brakes for me while I used a screwdriver to screw in the idle adjustment screw. Drove it 60 miles home like that. It idled at about 63, though it took it forever to get there.
I also keep a camera with me 24/7, mainly because I've been able to win collisions with them. It's kinda nice in court when they "say" what happened, and you pull out pictures of what really happened.

thanks D!

hmmm... been thinkin about the whole fan shroud thing, and i just may turn her over to a "factory v8" setup with the new shroud... i also have plans for a short water pump, an original air cleaner... better plug wires with stock location.... exhaust manifold shrouds (the exhaust was just redone recently).... and a change to the stock location for the alternator....
like i said... a return to stock... or at least 'semi-stock'

I think Tom Hand was referring to your engine position on the frame. Since it is not in the right place for a small block, the stock hoses aren't going to be a direct fit.

I would like to thank you jewels.
Why you ask?
Well today was the maiden run with the new 454 I just put in my 72. After i ran it a little while I noticed the upper hose wasn't in very good shape, (it was swelling up from the pressure and was getting soft), so off to the parts store where naturally I can't get a hose like the one I had because it has no part #. I get a hose that looks close and bring it home to try. Of course it won't fit!
Then I remember reading your thread earlier andthought I'd ask you what part # your new hose was.
As I was checking out your pics again to see if your hose looked like it might work for my application I noticed I could read the part # in one of the pics!
wrote the number down and back to the parts store.
Now, (with some slight trimming), I have a new upper hose that fits great!
You saved me a bunch of comparing! Don't ever quit carring that camera!!
BTW, The hose I got was a Gates #20607

Jewels, where were you 10 years ago when I was looking for a wife! (Do you have a car trailer? jk) Keep up the great work. You amaze me and I'm trying to get my wife involved in my build up. Keep it up, you're rubbing off on her!
