DesertRat (good to see ya back!!) - I know for a fact my license plate light is dead and has been so for who knows how long. I have no intention of fixing it anytime soon, nor have I been pulled over yet.
*knock on wood*

(Dead license plate lights make my relatively identifiable vehicle that much less identifiable when waterballooning if you know what I mean. Got the advantage of at least 5 other restored '67-'72s running around here...of course, mine's the only GMC...

My brother, on the other hand...well, that Z28 has been a cop magnet for him, though most of it is his fault (dragracing in an industrial park, being too retarded to figure out how to turn off the highbeams, etc).

Here is a picture of the factory pin switch that makes the light come on with you apply the e-brake. This is on a 72.

Here on mine in Virginia Beach, Va. I saw a brake light indication when the front right brake line failed. It is on the dash and it was due to lack of fluid in the master cylinder. The wire on the proporitioning valve. Email me I will tell you where I get the truck inspected. Two different places, and it passes every time. Kerry

Talking

It passed! I showed the guy at the station the blurb in the service manual, he said ok and put a new sticker on. I talked to him and said that they get "visited" by the state all the time and are a little gun shy. Oh well. Kerry, I'll email you after the storm. Thanks everybody,

I'm pleased you got them straight. But isn't it a shame... this nuisance tax? Is there anything we can do but click our heels?

I live in Missouri and have never had a problem like that. And I've never seen an inspector make that thorough of a inspection. I don't think they've ever checked to see if the e-brake even worked! They check the brake lights, tail lights, turn signals, headlights/high beams, brakes, and exhaust.... that's about it. I've only been hassled once because the exhaust on my '57 didn't exit behind the rear axle. And I usually take it to a Chevy dealship for the inpsections. If some guy told me my vehicle wouldn't pass inspection becasue of an idiot light, I'd laugh and go somewhere else.
