Yesterday the wife and I went out for the day and visited a castle that's been owned by the same family for 700 years! Even got to put my finger in a musket ball dent in a stone wall where Oliver Cromwell stood some guys against the wall and shot them after the battle of Marston Moor in July 1644 during the English civil war, very very cool house! (and attached village, still all owned by the family!)

I went up to the swap meet/car show at Grossmont College in San Diego and bought 2 rocker panels and a glove box insert from Rick's. I also got to meet "Shortstep" and his son and got a look at his truck..... and a pretty nice truck it is.
It's kinda funny how living in such a big area as San Diego and on a day to day basis not see hardly any old cars and trucks, but go to a fairly small car show/swap meet like this one and the parking lot is about 50% old iron. If anyone in the San Diego area hasn't gone to this once a month gathering, I'd recommend it. It's well worth the $5.00 cover.

working.....got hired at AUTOZONE!!! Will be working two jobs to pay my debts and save money for my new motor. 305 is still knocking, could just be the oil pump....who knows. I'll keep you all posted.

I cut a notch in the crossmember of my 1930 Chevy for steering shaft clearance and installed a Camaro steering column. I still have to get a longer D-shaft and two Borgeson joints.

Just fitted my new starter motor this morning and it refused to turn over, put the old one back, works fine, bench tested the new one with some jump leads and nothing so it looks like I got a duff one out of the box.....Master Quality Parts my @ss! Now my supplier doesn't have another one in stock and is waiting for a container load of parts to arrive from the US at the end of the week so I am off the road until then, what a waste of time and effort Grrr....!

The left front caliper on my truck froze the other day. I left it parked until I had time (yesterday) to get a new one. $14.99 for the part at the local auto parts store. $15 CORE CHARGE! I guess nobody brings those back, eh?
When I was done I drove it to Taylors Falls and back (around 8 miles one way). That is the farthest that thing has been from my house since gas went up.

Well, finally got the replacement for the dead new starter today, nipped out and put it on (getting pretty quick as I've pulled the original one, fitted the new duff one, pulled the duff one, refitted the original, pulled the original one again and refitted the 2nd new one, took me about 20 minutes this time!) It's wrapped in some hi-tech heat shield blanket that' a composite of fibreglass and aluminium to try and stop it being effected by heat soak like the old one. Boy does it start well, you don't realise how bad something has got until you replace it, the old one even when cold must have been turning over pretty slowly. I'm really happy, now I can go and get my new exhausts done.

I've been re-wiring my house. All the knob and tube is gone finally. Only one old circuit left: the refrigerator. I have to run a dedicated 20 amp circuit for that, and then I can finish wiring the new construction in the basement. I have 23 recessed recepticals, several switches (including a few 3-ways) and a couple of fans to wire before the drywaller wants to start this next week.
I'll get some pics of my progress later on this weekend...
