I got my grill at Outback truck parts. They are located in Spring, Texas. They have a website, I think it is www.outbacktruckparts.com I get everything for my truck there. They sell 67 - 87 truck parts only, which is good for us right? I'll get back with some specs later, but now I have to go to workout.

Alright, here's the 411. I got this truck from an Uncle in Cali. I paid 400 bucks for it. It cost twice that to ship it here. When we got it the engine had a stuck push rod. We tore it down and discovered it was 60 over. Bummer. So we went through Pace Parts (www.paceparts.com - a great site, out of state for me so no taxes! ) They had the cheapest crate engine we could find. 1,198 bucks for a brand new GM crate 350 from pan to valve covers. I topped it of with an Edelbrock Performer intake and 600 cfm Edelbrock carb. Next on the table was lowering. I ordered a 5.5 - 7 drop from www.sporttruckdirect.com . I carefully cleaned and painted the rear section of the truck and coated everything in paint. Once I installed it, when I went to take the floor jack out from under the center crossmember, and I couldn't get it out. With a little reverse persuasion we got it unstuck. Boy did it look good! I took it for a test drive to my grandpa's about 5 minutes away. When I arrived and pulled onto the dirt driveway, I plowed about a 100 foot trench until I reached my parking spot. When I looked under the truck, I discovered that my center crossmember was only a finger's width from the ground. And apparently my a-arms had scrapped the ground a bit.

hmmm..might paint my truck flat black with a rattle can...any thing speical to this kinda thing? i am quite good at the rattle can as thats how i've painted everything on my truck. what prep work would need to bo done? thanks, sorry if im stealing the thread

Well, all I did was sand it down with the d.a. sander and wipe her down. Then I shot the whole thing with a black epoxy primer. This will keep the truck rust free until I have enough money to paint it. The flames are spray can rustoleum automotive gray. I'd strongly suggest if you're going to use a spray can, that you don't sand through to bare metal because it will eventually rust through the primer.

Do you happen to have a part number on it?? I dont see anything really listed on their site for 73-87. Do you remember how much it was??

I know. I found that a bit odd. They have a lot of stuff for 73-87 trucks at their location, in Texas, but don't bother to put it on their website. What I suggest is calling them and tell them you have a friend who bought a billet grill for his '78 Silverado, and say you wanted one too but couldn't find it on their website. I think it was 100 bucks. Give or take.

Primer is not a sealer and is porous so water can get to bare metal pretty easy.

yes, im going to use a spray can primer and then real paint from a rattle can, probally flat black, that is if i don't sell my truck...

But the epoxy does make a great sealer when laid over existing paint.
