ebay is truly capitalism at its best!
how do I find out which bolts are worth so much? or what other parts?
I remember seeing a kleenex box for a 57 chevy that sold for $350....
Since we are sharing ebay stories i have a nice one. There was this old bra that someone found in thier ceiling a few years ago. The description was so clever that it made this disgusting old bra sound like it was a rare artifact with historical signifigance. The thing ended up selling for $129. Why anyone would pay $129 for an old dirty bra is beyound me but i applaud the person who had the stones to write up the description and post it on ebay. There an old expression im sure all of you have heard "where theres a will, theres a way" and personally im glad that all of our resolves arent identical because otherwise it would be a pretty boring world to live in.

I also agree that the guy who spent $900 on a bolt shouldnt be mocked but rather envied. How many of you can spend $900 on a bolt? I hope to some day have sTuPiD money so that i can light my cigars with $100 bills and pass out money to strangers who amuse me .... call it stupid if you want but you cant take it with you so why not spend it if you got it?

I hope that bolt was at least in original GM packaging. It`s one thing to pay alot for something you can lay your hands on,another to buy, basically, sight unseen. It wasn`t that long ago people were leary of mail-order.Until companies like LLBean came along with better than "in store" customer service and support.Where would Ebay have been back then?

Nope, it was just a picture of a shifter bolt. No packaging. BTW, the same seller and buyer got together on another "rare" fastener (same COPO Camaro) for $285.00. Wow.

I wonder if the buyer had to cough up extra for shipping???

Makes you think about going out to the shop and completely disassembling a perfectly good $20K original (or even a restored!) car and selling the "rare fasteners" off the *#^%$! thing.

That might be the most expensive steering wheel I've ever seen. I don't think I could force myself to pay that much. More power to the seller and the numbers matching person who just has to have it! Now on that note, anyone want to buy my NOS right fender for a 70-72 442/Cutlass for $2000, LOL?

Exactly....if any of you guys know anything at all about a perfect 100 point show car in the "concourse" class, judges will check everything down to the last nut and bolt with the proper markings, paint over-spray on the "proper" hoses and belts (yes, they had over-spray on them from the factory), proper tire pressure, clean exhaust pipes..........

I have got one exactly like that it came from a 66 chevelle,I was saving it for my 68 chevelle ss, now Im rethinking whether or not to sell it,but probably wont cause I know I would be hard pressed to find another one at least not a gm factory original one.Thats stupid IMO to pay that much for something like these, but Owell to each his own.

I know all about date-codings on everything from alternators to blocks to damn near everything else on a car or truck. Listen carefully - to spend that kind of money on a bolt that absolutely NO ONE will ever see, much less check at a car show or even a concours, is nuts.

I'm all for capitalism, trust me. That's why I'll be selling my two large containers of extremely rare automotive fasteners on the 'bay in the near future. Bids will start at one million dollars. Buyer pays shipping and insurance.

Like patrick66 said(I already did)The bolt won`t be seen.Besides,if it`s authentic COPO,why does it need a shifter bolt?Guess the original could have sheered(doubt it)if the trans was bound up.I can see spending big for the correct excellant steering wheel, though. And I do know alot about judged restorations,Harley where every nut`n`bolt does show.
