LONGHORN MAN,
"...69 and older was still and option,.."
What do you mean by this??
I personally have never seen a 1971 CAB. That is interesting to learn that GM did this to the 1971 cabs just for a rear view mirror....I guess you learn something new everyday.......That's what's nice about this truck board, all of the things I learn.
What I have seen in two different 1969 Longhorn's though was:
1. One was a Yellow colored CST Custom Camper 20 Longhorn (that I owned)with a rear view mounting bracket, with OUT that plastic cover. It actually was just a solid piece of metal w/ horizontal lines molded on the mounting surface of the mounting bracket with only one pivit point behind the mirror itself.
2 The other (my fathers...a "plain jane" Orange/red colored model C/20 Longhorn) was exactly like the one on this 1/2 ton 1969. The mirror being able to pivit behind the mirror as well being able to pivit on the cab mounting surface.
Maybe any 1969 truck that was a lower model than a CST, had that 2 pivit point mirror bracket????
As for my 1968 50th ed. Longhorn....I am STILL collecting NOS parts for it! I have now given up on saying when I am actually going to finish her up!......I hope sometime in my life!!!!!! Realisticly...I hope in the next few years.
P.S. Does Jeff still own his 1969 Longhorn...the nicely optioned one?

67-69 the rear view mirror was an option, the only mirors that were on the base model truck was the outside ones on either door...or on the drivers door only in 67. Many have had a mirror added at one point due to state inspectors that don't know any better, or drivers who prefer to have the added mirror there.
The metal bracket you mentioned, with the lines in the metal, I have seen this too, in both chrome and in black, I think that is what the dealer had on hand to slap in there when a customer asked for one. My 69 GMC (ok...chevyE's truck now) had this style mirror in it whn I bought it, and when I first joined this board i asked about it. There were a couple things that made me wonder, I had thought that was a 67/68 style mirror...and what was it doing in my 69...and also, the fact that it was way off center. This was when I was told it was optional, and I have sence seen it in the restoration packet. 1970 was the first year that it became standard equipment.
Jeff does still have the 69 longhorn. he also just purchased a short/fleet 72 chevy....nice lookin little truck.

WOAH.... have yet to see...nor hear of, a non 71 that has the raised pad for the R/V mirror....gee emm....thanks for showing that. I hate being wrong, but what the heck, the right info is what matters.
Make that MOST 67 - 70 trucks had a smooth mounting point for the r/v mirror.

The picture above is of a 71 but there probably are some 71's out there without the raised mount. Kinda like a small window 68

Oh hell...I thought that was your 69.
I thought it was odd there was crap on the visor...I wondered why you'd photo your truck with dirt on it.
Your truck isn't even green is it.

Both of my 1970 trucks had the cover that Gee Emm posted there...one truck was a CST, the other a base model with no trim package on it what so ever.
