hows he going to stop it if he gets it to move with the stuff he is talkin about 52 inch tires are going to need alot of brake !!!!!!!!!! and i also dont see a 14 bolt or a d60 holding up very long and 410 gears aint enough gear its going to need alot lower gear than that !!! i just sold a 78 truck a while back with 44s on it that 410 gears and they wasnt low enough for it and it was hard on brakes had to change pads about one a month

my truck is pretty solid right now with 6" lift and 35" mts. all you stock truck women need to shut your mouths telling me what i'm thinking and what my HUGE truck will be able to do. i'm not in the field of building a tube chasis honda powered vertical climbing thing. no interest in them. i do like fullsize trucks and if you know anything about crawling you'll know that trucks like the one i'm building consitantly make people put their feet directly into their mouths. i was looking for constructive comments and even will to take a littl constructive critisism. thanks to the guys who offered help with what i was looking for... for all you guys driving volkwagen beetles looking to trash me for building a tough as nails big truck **** yourselfs.

holy crap, you have a lot to learn there bud.

But thats ok, i'll forgive your oh so common attitude of bigger is ALWAYS better no matter what my stupid mind will think. Its guys like you who build huge trucks that couldn't drive over a curb without flopping.

Typically on a full-size chevy anything much over 6" of lift is getting too tall to be competitive in any kind of crawling because your center of gravity is too high.

How about keeping your 6" of lift, moving your front axle forward and throwing some 39s or something close on it, it would be WAY more capable than what your thinking about doing.

Oh yeah, good thing you don't live near me, I don't wanna be anywhere near that rig on the street, won't be able to control it or stop it.

Dude, remember how you got into this website? With that attitude, forget about it, and find your way back out. Don't come on as a n00b and kick stuff up.

Tell you what, let's see pics of your truck right now to give you some credibility. Otherwise, I will assume you are just another talker. Go to pirate 4x4 or any off road websites, and tell them you want to stuff 52's with 1 ton gear and no regearing. You will get FAR MORE critcism there. These guys are being pretty nice and are trying to be helpful.

I would say the truck you want to build will be able to go in a straight line on the street at about 35MPH without breaking or rolling over. Sounds like a helluva truck.

Hey, I'm all for it. The only way to learn is to do. If you want to build a huge truck then go for it. People ought to leave eachother alone. I have seen big trucks like that here in pigtown USA and they do fine. Every other little piece of S$&% will learn to move out of your way.

for all you guys driving volkwagen beetles looking to trash me for building a tough as nails big truck **** yourselfs.

here's a few pics for you.

the first is my truck, complete with 4.56 geared 1 ton axles, 40" Super Swamper TSLs, 52" rear springs up front, and a crawl ratio of 60:1. should easily score 1000 on a 30* RTI ramp. the crawl ratio is a little low for strictly rock duty, but since it was built to handle both rocks and general trails, the 4.56s are just fine.

the second pic is of me standing next to a truck that i helped build. the pic happens to have been taken at the entrance to the Buzzard's Roost at Badlands Offroad Park in Attica, IN. the pic was taken right before the start of the fifth obstacle in Fourwheeler Magazine's Real Truck Club Challenge, and the truck is currently a Top Truck Challenge nominee.

so much for you "truck women with stock trucks" comment, eh?

the third is a guy with a setup very similar to the one you're talking about running, except his is wearing 39.5" Boggers to comply with the rules for RTCC. he was allowed to compete in the engineering competition, and the mud bog at RTCC, but was barred from all other competitions because it was a safety hazard. and yes, this is as far as he made it up the ramp before lifting a tire. pretty pathetic if you ask me.

sure, Chad's truck may be stock, but you now what? it does what it is intended to do, which your truck will not, regardless of how badass you think the setup will be, you've still got a lot to learn.

i've got a good idea that a huge truck will do just fine on the trail, i've seen 44s and 49s on trucks that climb mountains, ride trails, bog, and still handle rocks really well, and if you've read the mags and watched the dvds you've seen them too.

what's with assuming the way i want to build my truck wont work? and when did i say i wanted to rock crawl? jesus. i'm new to posting, i'm not a newbie, i have been playing and paying for a long time.

i watch most of the posts on pirate 4x4 too, i thought this was a more accepting place. i didn't think guys with stock trucks could give any input on my question, but hey apparently they know exactly the limitations i have, with my plans and my dificient brain.

here's before the 14 bolt and dana 60.

yeah comparing me to a guy with blocks, cool. i'd laugh at him on the street. thanks for comparing me to an idiot. i'll move the hangers and have nice long springs to flex from here to below... but thanks again.

the only usefull piece i've picked up from any of this is to cut more-lift less.. and re-gear but nobody has told me why a dual t-case would be worse.

wouldn't a dual case make my driveshaft ujoints the weak link? i'd rather snap em over and over than make my axle shafts the weak link.

apples to apples. do a little bit of physics research. you may wanna put a little extra emphasis on this new law they've come up with too, they call it gravity.

okay 1fastc10 you win... you're better than me. your awsome truck is way better than mine and your knowledge is far superior. good luck with that heap.

and don't actually call me an idiot... you haven't convinced me i deserve it. i'm really sick of this but i won't back down as long as i'm still insulted.

long wheelbase, huge springs, massive unsprung weight, big meats, 500horse/lbft, i'll take my chances on the gravity thing.

and by the way, nice freakin truck!!! ha

just build the truck already. im sure that if your setup does whatever you say it will, then everyone will give you your dues, and if it doesnt work...well...

... you'll get a big fat "I TOLD YOU SO!"

stupid tall lift springs dont flex, flex is essential on a trail vehicle as you say this one will be. the 52s are entirely too much weight for even 1 tons, you will need rockwells. the 4.10 gear ratio is entirely too high, you wont have enough torque multiplication to effectively move the truck. as was stated before, the center of gravity will be entirely too high. even thinking about putting it off camber ot will roll over. dont think it could happen? the truck we took to RTCC used to have a 3" bodylift in addition to the 6" suspension lift to clear the 38.5 TSLs. Tim was on a trail, and rolled the truck on its side down the hill. fortunately the truck wasnt hurt too bad, he beat a few dents out of it, and removed the bodylift. he has since been to the same spot, and has no problems now. keep the CG low, the gear ratios and tire size inline, and you wont have any problems.

what is the real need to have 52s anyways? feelin a little inadequate somewhere else?

hey i dont want to get involved to the point where i am getting told off too, and i know jack about how to build a capable off road vehicle, but if i use some of the common sense that i keep stored somewhere behind the THC-destroyed cells of my brain...well everything that these guys are saying makes perfect sense. unless you know something that they dont. but like i said i dont know jack and i dont want to get told off...i just think this is one of the best threads ever. its kinda like 4x4 jerry springer.

My truck has stock springs now because the 4" lift ones I had on it were too stiff, I think my truck actually flexes better with these stock 1-ton springs in front and stock 1/2 ton springs out back.

But anyway, its not the only 4x4 i'v owned, i'v seen some little suzuki samurais on 33's do stuff some really big tired rigs were doing, its crazy, I used to own a samurai with SPOA 5" lift and 31x10.5" tires that were almost bald and I welded the rear axle, little bugger would go almost anywhere! No powering steering and crappy gearing sucked the big one though, and the 1.3L motor wasn't much for torque.

That would be one Bad Ass truck but I think that you should go with some bigger axles and a different gear ratio. Trial and error though, it might all work out but........
Post up some pics when you start working on it.
