Also, there is a code on the glove box sheet without a description that reads, "04Z62H" Can anyone help me decode that?

Check out this thread. It is on the very subject.

You say everyone here likes lowered truck, so I must not be everyone. I use mine as a truck, not a show machine, so it's stock height. I'd put a new intake with 4 barrel on it (please keep the 2 barrel and intake on a shelf for the future). A 42000 mile original big block truck has to be pretty rare. Nice find you've got there.

Nice CustomCamper!I have a soft spot for them. Many were pampered RV machines making them a great group of survivors, like yours.Maybe one of those paint codes is "solid paint",since it has the mouldings and most with that had an accent color.Manual choke isn`t unusual. There was no automatic choke until`69,I think. That`s cool you have the "clip-type" 8.25s.Just a suggestion,do what you like. But,the factory used silver paint(like Rallyes)on`68s and that sure would look good with your truck color,deep-dish wheels, and original chrome caps.Nice find!

Welcome - lots of great info here and don't be afraid to ask questions - pretty much everyone is willing to help you out. Interesting truck.

anyway you can get a picture of the carberator itself - i'd be interested in seeing it and maybe the model # and (i'm assuming it is a Rochester). Just interested as i have a BBC that i'm going to be running mainly with a 2bbl

I think your paint code is a fleet service vehicle paint option. You know something like city/county/state use....someting like that. That is the first BB 2bbl set up I've ever seen.....pretty cool.

Apparently my questions ruffled one member's feathers, and I'm not referring to the trucks owner thecatseye66.

My primary interest in the trucks or any old vehicle for that matter is in the manufacturing, marketing, and sales history behind them. Not how fast or low I can make then go (nuthin' wrong with that, but it's not my goal). I like to educate myself on the why's and hows of production RPO's, units produced, colors, options, etc. Similar to what an art historian, civil war historian, archeologist, or any other specialist does, learn by questions and comparing it to the existing knowledge base.

So...

The question about the 2bbl carb was because I've always been told all BB trucks were 4 bbl equipped. I do know some cars came with a 2bbl, so I was attempting to ascertain if the intake was original to the truck or swapped out.

Same deal with the choke, as to my knowledge all 67/68 trucks with a 4bbl carb had divorced (auto) chokes. I was curious as to if the choke knob matched the others or if it were an aftermarket choke setup. Yet another clue as to originality of 2bbl intake.

As for the missing hood letters, this question/comment was posed from the standpoint of the "special paint" code on the build sheet. Again, all my reading indicates special paint was mainly used for fleet vehicles where factory colors were deleted in favor of a special color for fleets. I was curious as to the possibility this was extended to a "badge delete" for some reason. My best guess here is that perhaps this truck was sold to an RV installer as a special fleet of trucks in which campers were installed and subsequently sold as a package. They had requested a special paint and just maybe the deletion of the hood lettering too. Admittedly a stretch, but it's really all I was after when I pointed out the missing lettering.

From my point of view your truck is historically unique from the fact that it's relatively a low-mileage, unmolested original with a build sheet and some unique options. I'd love to find something like that some day. Until then I'll just keep asking questions as these gems surface from time to time.

As I stated in another post, it seems as if the board has degenerated somewhat when simple questions are percieved as knock, slights, knit-picks, or whatever. I know thecatseye didn't take it this way but others did and the record needed to be set straight.

I'll go back to my glass house and await a rebuttle.

Build sheet

Welcome from Sweden. I really like your truck, congrats on the find.
IÂīm curious on where in the truck you found the built sheet? My 71 Custom Camper will soon arrive to Sweden and it also a Fremont built truck. ItÂīs missing the glove box sticker so the built sheet would really be great to find.

Thanks

There were two in the seat of my truck, one in the top and one in the bottom plus another with the original owner package. That makes three of them...is that a record?

I think it is a nice looking color as it is and welcome from the Armpit of America, Northwest Indiana. Drive it and enjoy, mine hasn't been on the road for a while and has a while to go yet, Just go slow so you can enjoy it as you go. Also some food for thought, IMHO trucks should be used and a full restoration to better than factory is a waste if you want to use it as a truck.. If you show it or rub it with a diaper on the weekend, you guys know who you are, go for it.

You really need to keep up with the news!

The overwhelming majority felt I made valid contributions to this board. It was Everybody except 2.

As always in this Great Society of ours, majority rules.

As for the campaign, "Stock Like A Rock" is so last year, and it does not need me. You see, "there are two camps"...the one to which I belong has many

thecatseye66, I appologize for my "friend" and the threadjacking. He's irrational and childish at best, fixated and disturbed at worst. This board is generally better behaved than this. Please don't let this deter you from visiting and sharing with us. I know we shared some PM's along the same lines of thought as well.

catseye, Bring that truck over to Monroe for the big Spring Swap meet in May...we would love to see it. A few of the Western WA board members try to get together for that one. It's a big meet with lots of great parts.
