One thing about the caddys in trucks. Most caddy engines had very low-rise intake manifolds to allow for caddy low hoods. Since our trucks have much more hood clearance over the engine, one can run a BBC-style, higher-rise aftermarket intake manifold on a caddy motor for more performance and maybe better mileage. Nice advantage for our trucks.

Also, caddy engines were made to run sah-moooth. The valve train stuff on the heads is really quiet and the crank and bottom end is super well balanced. Neat engines, IMO. Just a little tough, parts wise.

you can but a flywheel for a caddy so you can use a clutch, but it is 275-375 bucks from some big caddy hot rod shop. I think you can use a 11 orr 12 inch heavy-duty clutch with it. And you can buy a adapter from jegs that goes from a chevy tranny to a buick, olds,caddy or pontiac engine for about 60 bucks. so to use the granny gear tranny, it will set you back quite a chunk of change.

My 355 has real good low end torque for a small block its got a 4x4 Comp cam and an edlebrock EPS intake and 4.10's. With no load it seems like a stock BBC put 1500# on it and then you can tell it's just a SBC I want more power and better MPG I would like to build a 383 someday.

I'm going to soup up a 327,350, stroked 350 or 400 sbc and run a granny gear tranny.........thanks for the input.
