You know, I'm beginning to think that must be a regional thing b/c I've heard others say something similar. Someone in one place sees only Eaton. Someone somewhere else saw only Danas. I wonder if it had to do w/ the plant they were produced in. I think I've personally seen only one Eaton in the last 15 yrs in a '69 K20 chassis that originated out of Texas. It was a chassis cab & was fitted w/ a utility box. Of course, that said, I'll only see Eaton axles now.

My truck was originally from Steamboat Springs, CO. My parts donor was originally from Fort Collins, CO.

of the 3 non 1/2 ton trucks I've had, they were all eatons...2 HO52 and one HO72, all witht he 4.10 gear.
However, just 40 miles from here, Fine69 has only seen danas in most of the rigs he comes across.

My truck is a C20 with front and rear coils, and it does have a lot of extra steel plates riveted to various places on the frame I never noticed before. Here's the pics of the extra frame re-enforcments, these were taken by Txfirefighter I think. First couple are for 1/2 tons, last couple are for the 3/4 tons.

Thanks as well LH, Robert and firefighter.

Does anyone have a picture of the Dana 60 versus corporate(eaton) rear diff? How many bolts on the Dana cover and whats its shape?

Dana has 10 bolts on the cover and is kinda egg-shaped (with corners). The Eaton diff looks like you put a big round metal salad bowl on the diff. Not indentations and it's perfectly round. I think it also has ten bolts on the cover.

Ok a couple of diff pics:

The second ten bolt sounds like the Corporate/Eaton.
How about the first?

So the Dana 60s have a 12 bolt cover? That would make it pretty simple, Dana 12bolt, Corp/Eaton - 10bolt.

Ready for what model that picture is from?

A 69 C-10 "4wd." Another conversion I am guessing.

First picture is a Chevy 10Bolt. Similiar to a D44. 10 bolts on the cover
a "12bolt" is a similiar axle.

Actually it seems you can get leafs on the 2wd and 4wd models and in reference to the auction above, I emailed him and this was his reply back:

Quote:
Here my story and I'm sticking to it. My grandpa bought the truck brand new in 1969. He sold it to me in 1982. I had it converted in 1986 by Joe Atkinson Automotive Works here in Phx. It has a 1975 Dana 44 installed up front. The cross members and transfercase are from a 1972 Blazer. The engine is set back just as a stock 4x4 with the longer fan shroud. It has a short output shaft on the transmission just like stock. It has the raised pan inside to allow clearance for the transfercase. The frame just aft of the front axle is reinforced because this is where the rear shackle mounts are installed. It was completed after 4 months of labor. I can't help you on the book value of course but I can tell you it drives, operates, and feels solid. I drove it last October to Southern Colorado pulling an 87 Jeep Wrangler and back with out a lick of trouble.
That rear shackle mount he is referring to is the point where the frame had been severely cut out(and not replaced) on truck I went to look at.

It sounds like it may have been done right, but its definitely a conversion. Hes wanting 10k for the truck if I read the auction info correct.
