Re: one piece door glass

Mike Nutt Thank you very much for posting this info. This kit has been very long in coming. Captkaos and I had a conversation about this the first time I met him on one of his trips to Houston. I'm pretty sure that was about 6 years ago. Chris maybe your memory is better than mine on what year that was.

My point is this, there is a very good reason that many of us are very skeptical about there ever being such a kit. That reason is because some of us have personally consulted master installers, contacted various glass suppliers, and talked with manufacturers reps, about what it would take to produce the glass for a 73-87 GM truck piece window. We have been ignored, laughed at, and called fools more times than we care to remember.

The biggest hurdle has always been money. We have always been left with the "if you have to ask how much, you can't afford it" feeling from everyone
that "knows" what they are talking about.

We knew it was only a matter of time before some company stepped up and saw that there was enough demand, but until now no one wanted to be that company.

As LOHRTBT noted , everyone wanted one until they saw the price and that includes me. Is it worth $774....? From what I know about the initial cost to put a kit together, I would say yes. Do I think it will be cheaper? Of course some one will copy the kit and the competition will probably force the price down.

With that said, you can choose to respond to this thread in a positive manner, or expect it to get locked like the last two have.

It's your choice guys....

BTW- I suggest we show some appreciation to BROTHERS truck parts for making this happen....

Cool Re: one piece door glass

Well said Ken!

Im just a bit conscerned about the window sealing correctly for both air & H2o
Id'e like to see a pic installed or just the kit. in order to see what the quality is like if it looks cheapo than it's not worth 800 bux.

It was February 6, 2000 when I started the thought process of this and ran into every snag I have seen listed here: It will be 6 years since we spoke about this Ken. I should have gotten off my butt...

Here is some of my progress:

http://www.captkaoscustoms.com/images/onepiece.jpg
http://www.captkaoscustoms.com/images/one-piece.jpg

I have the "window" rolling up and down, but didn't have anyone that could make the glass or wanted to make it. This year I found a company who would make the glass, but it wasn't cheap, but fairly resonable if I ordered about 20 sets. (I didn't have the cash) Then there is the issue of the gaskets. I had talked to a couple of companies about it, but again, still not cheap and they needed a working piece to get it going. On top of the fact that alot of people don't want to hack their truck, I was trying to make it so you could actually go back to what was there before if you wanted and be able to use non-custom parts to do it. I still haven't given up the idea of producing it, just haven't quite gotten there.

I wouldn't expect a high amount of savings over this price. If I can get mine working I would have to price it at $650 to actually make some money back. Their pricing is very decent. I am waiting to see their pictures and talk to the ones making the kit.

Chris, if you get pics (or any other relevant info) from Brothers, please share it with us it you would be so kind.

The more I think about this, the less I care about spending the money...I just don't want to a sub-par kit.

Re: one piece door glass

I'm kind of bummed. The brother's kit wont fit a full convertible K5 like I got...Oh well I'd probably bust the glass on tree or rock or something off road. JOKES!!! People sure get wound tight over this subject...

I'd like to see what it looks like on a truck though.

Brothers 1973-87
One Piece Window kit

With BROTHERS one-piece window kit you can eliminate your trucks vent windows and give your truck the smooth appearance and great operation of one-piece glass. This special cut of glass allows for complete sealing around the window and easy roll-up or down operation. Our glass kit was painstakingly designed for easy installation and use. BROTHERS kit includes correct factory style curved glass, all felt channels, custom scraper set, and hardware to complete 2 doors. This kit was designed to work with the existing manual or power window regulator. The glass is available in clear only. Fits all front door applicaitons except Blazers with full convertable tops.

Re: one piece door glass

That looks

If it works as good as it looks be prepared to sell a bunch of 'em. The first thing I noticed was the lack of a filler piece at the lower front part of the glass like some of the 67-72 kits. Looks 100% better/cleaner without the filler piece. Looks like you guys did your homework.

Re: one piece door glass

Hey Guys, although this kit is done we are still waiting for a couple of the componets to come to assemble the kits. We should be able to start shipping right after the first of the year. It's kind of hard to tell with the holidays coming up and factories closing down fbetween x-mas and new years. I am also trying to get better detailed pics for you to check out.

Thanks for all the intrest,

Question Re: one piece door glass

Hey JC,

Is the glass real glass? And is it safety glass? And does it comply with all DOT requirement's?

Tnkx.

Re: one piece door glass

Thanks for posting that JC. I feel that once Xmas is over and people see what kinda money they have left and tax return time comes around you will see the orders starting to pour in. I have no doubt its a very expensive process to get these up and running. If I had the money..I would do it.. It looks Very clean for sure.

Stepper...naw mang...its that fake glass they use in teh movies for stunts hehehe.j/k

hmmm.....what can I hock for the money for this hahaha.

Re: one piece door glass

Hey 87 stepper, Yes it is real glass. Our glass is being made by an automotive glass Manufacture not some corner glass shop. As you know most of the expence in this kit is the glass. It's not a flat piece like on the earlier trucks. It's curved and with all the new weather seals it seals up nice.

What does it take to install this kit. Do I need to cut through the outside of my door? I couldn't bring myself to cut up fresh paint, inside or out.

Re: one piece door glass

Man, that looks good. I was afraid it would have the filler piece also. I wouldn't like it with it but it looks a hundred times better without the vent window. To me, the vent windows are nothing but air suckers. I never open mine and would love to have them gone.

When more pics become available and I can really see how everything looks, I may start thinking more about them in my truck. It's really exciting to see new innovations come around us.
