If you search, there are some older posts on here about this swap. One post specifies the exact models & years where you can find the bigger brakes.

I was reading the RPO codes on my new-to-me Gentleman Jim and it shows:
J55 Heavy Duty Power Brakes. Some research shows: J55 brakes use the same rear shoes as JB5 / JD5 (11 5/32" x 2 3/4"). So I think the option code (in '75 anyway) is J55. --Nick |

Another trick that you can do is, buy 2 sets of shoes and use the longer ones and not the short ones... for example use the shoe with the longer pad on the front and rear of the wheel; more breaking surface area on the drum.

Does any one know if the inside parts(wheel cylinders) change over from 2" brake parts to 2 3/4" brakes. I found the drums at NAPA, i am getting the backing plates from our classifieds

Wow, old thread huh ? Back when I first started it I didn't even have any gray hair. How time flies. I hope some folks have gotten good out of it over the years.
