Re: 3 car garage
Thanks ----I realize that things have changed some since the hit of Katrina, but the whole garage that you see there cost me $28,000.00 and that included the lift and concrete, in 1998. I found a guy that built garages out of a lumber yard and contracted him to build mine, I did my own wiring and lights. The lift was purchased used from a large dealership in Kansas City that was in a bankruptcy and going under, so I got it at 1/2 of the cost. The building has 6 inches insulation in the walls and 9 inches in the ceiling, I have yet to install heating in there.

Re: 3 car garage
My garage is 30x40. It is full of stuff. Need to add on but do not want to out grow the neighborhood.

Re: 3 car garage
My garage is a Tandem 20x36. I would have made it 24 ft wide but I couldn't because of setback requirements. It has a 12x36 attic storage area in it too.
Not the best working garage because you can't really walk around the vehicles but it does the job. Also a pain to move vehicles to get to the ones in front....but it's better than no garage at all. It matches the house and looks like a 2 car from the street.

Re: 3 car garage
OK, I want to play. I have a attatched two car with shop, and a detatched two car. The bins on the wall were compliments of Craigs list. My garage is a terrible mess. Its usually clean, but Im at the tail end of a couple projects.

Re: 3 car garage
Don't have any pics of our shop but it is a 30X40 with about 15 ft ceilings I think, it was made for working on farm equipment when we use to do a little mroe farming. Now our ATV's my 71 project and the lawnmower pretty much fill the place up.

Re: 3 car garage
Do to the MN winter I still don't have a garage floor... We closed a month ago and they say after the frost is out and road restrictions are off then they will get to it possibly as late as July. So all projects are put on hold till the floor can be laid.
Thanks, Paul

Re: 3 car garage
I ran out of space in my 2 car garage also.....so I started this "small" barn/shop project a couple of years ago. I plan the skin it in the next 45 days and have garage doors on it by the end of summer. There will be a second story on the right hand side with an office/bedroon/bath. Under the second story will be be the shop equipment, tools and work benches. It is 40x80 and after I add some fill and a floor I will have about 16' ceilings. Should be plenty of height for a lift!! The door openings will be 2 @ 12w x 14h and 2 @ 10w x 12h.

Re: 3 car garage
I am loving it. Looks like it is out in the back 40. That is exactly where it would have to be if I had it. My wife hates my 30x40 as it is. She keep saying while I was building it, " Why does it have to be so big?" I know I heard that about, mmmmm, 20 times?! Yep 20. But I still love her with all my heart and won't trade her in till it cost more to fix her.

Re: 3 car garage
In the first pic you can see the huge cabinets that line the left side of the wall. They extend all the way over to the corner where they create a hole for my tool chest. On the back wall I have my work bench with storage underneath a as well as on top where important thinks like… my stereo sits!! The rest of the wall has one door, heat pump, 2 water heaters, and more storage. With everything put away in its place, we can fit three cars in there with ample room to open your door all the way without hitting the car next to you. Lastly my truck only fits in the furthest left spot. Kind of makes it a hassle to use the workbench always tagging you knee on the bumper haha. Just about the coolest feature of my garage is that its insulated and heated!!!

Re: 3 car garage
Had planned to put 40 by 60 up in yard by house. Started getting static about parts laying around. Noise late at night keeping people up. So I saved about $30000 and used what was already there and only cost $8000 to convert. (pic in link in siggy.) It is a 30' grain bin that PO had took all the motors, augers, and fans and just left the shell. I cut a hole in the wall and was going to just park my tractor and equipment in it. It is 24' from concrete floor to top of walls. Had a carpenter friend look at it and I asked him if he could put a square peg in a round hole. I wanted a floor built at 12' not a ceiling with stairs so I could store parts up there and make it easier to heat. It was a real challenge but we got it done. I don't have any inside pictures at this time but will try to make some and post. I get a lot of laughs when my drag racing buddies come over to check out my cars progress. It started out as a joke and ended up a reality. My race cars are known as Fatmans Folly. Friends that want anything done know my answer is "when I can get around tuit". So now I'm getting to meet a whole new circle of friends that love trucks. You'll have to form your own opinions about me. While you're there in my siggy link check out my open air parts and project department. I've just got to get "a Round Tuit"

Is that black car an old Mercedes? Or possibly a Volvo? Looks like an old Mercedes from the 60's.

Re: 3 car garage
Sweet. Body shape is somewhat similar to a 63 Mercedes 4 door that my youngest step daughter and and Son-in-law did the body and paint work on. Body was set on a shortened S-10 frame with a smallblock and automatic. Fabricated some fins on the back to fit a late 70 early 80's Caddy bumper and tail light assy that had been shortened. Thing ended up in some magazine after he started taking it to a few shows. The 53 Ford truck he and I are doing for a local car dealer is going to be really nice when it is done I do believe. We will jsut have to see.

Re: 3 car garage
One thing I notice about shops and garages. They always seem to get filled up with other CRAP.I decided I am going to wall in the space under my deck and use it to store lawn equipment and such.I have attic storage for Christmas decorations and such.I just need a way to put a roof under the deck floor. My deck is about 6-9 ft high on a slope. That way I can use my full 20X22 garage as a shop.If I don't have a mower,20 boxes of stuff and a trimmer and flower pots taking up space I should have more room to use.

Re: 3 car garage
In between dodging tornados this weekend...I managed to get a good bit of my wall panels on my "shop in progress" I had left a few pieces of metal laying about and the winds from the tornado sent them into the trees. We were very fortunate that it touched down a couple of blocks from here and not on us!!!!! I hope to have all the wall complete and doors up by the end of summer.

Re: 3 car garage
Does anyone have a rough estimate of what a 40x60 shop insulated would cost?

Re: 3 car garage
I'm still cleaning my junk holder out, maybe I can get finished today
Anyway,I have been attempting to run a buisness out of a 3 car garage, and space is a BIG issue.36x24,two overhead doorson the 24' side,so you can only pull two cars in,so I divided off 12' across the front of hte shop as a tool/work area.Welding, benches, toolboxes, compressor, ect all in the work area, and a slab big enough for two cars to work off of.Looks good on paper,we'll see how reality pans out

Re: 3 car garage
Depends on who builds it. A company like "Morton", will take you to the cleaners. They wanted $38,000.00 for my 40 X 40 back 66 years ago. I got it built much cheaper. "Lester" buildings will be in the 28K area, but that can change with the number and size of roll up doors, how tall the ceiling and interior lining. The concrete is pricey after the Katrina mess, ro it can weigh heavy on your cost.
If you build it, look for sheetmetal that has a 30 year or better warranty. |
