Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?

I run a 6 cylinder and 3.08 gears in my everyday beater. It gets 14 mpg.

If I need to make a very long trip, or haul something heavy, I use the Cummins diesel truck. It gets 20 unloaded on the highway.

Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?

My D.driver is a 95 nissan. Had it since it was new. Now it's got 188K. I bought it because I was in college and it was very practical. I used to drive it through the week and V8's vehicles on the weekend now it's looking like my weekend vehicle will be one of my brother's samurai's. They are cheap on gas, a convertible too. Too bad people are snagging them up now. They used to be dirt cheap.
I want to get my old 67 going. I keep contemplating to keep the 292 or put in a small V8. I guess they'd be about the same as far as mileage.

I just got home from about an hour ride in the K10. Probably the most it has been driven in 6 mos. Last time I figured it got about 13+ mpg. Yeah it sucks the gas but I like how it sounds and the looks that it gets.

Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?

I Honestly Think The Gas Companies Hear Me Fire Up My Truck...

The Gas Can Be Under A Dollar A Litre Here Still (Too Lazy To Convert For US $$$...) But It Seems Like Once I Hit The Road With It...Well, It Jumps Up Past The Dollar Mark. With That Said I've Only Driven The Truck 3 Times Sence I Pulled Her Out Of Storage For Summer A Month Ago...

For The Most Part I Try Not To Let The Price Of Gas Get Me Down. My DD Is A 4 Cyl 4x4 And I'm Lucky Enough That I Only Have To Fill It Up Once Every 2 Weeks. Whatever I'm Saving In Gas With My DD I Enjoy Burning With My Truck...But It Does Suck I Can't Drive It Daily Over The Summer Like I Did 3 Years Ago.

I'm The Type Of Person That What Ever The Price It Costs Me To Enjoy The Time I Have Here On Earth I'm Gonna Do It. I Just Hope There's Gonna Be Enough Gas For At Least The Next 45-50 Years Till I Kick The Bucket And They Bury Me In My Truck

I agree. A good friend once told me that it is our responsibility to burn up all the fossil fuels so that they will come up with something better.

I'm doing my part with my C20...at 9 MPG.

My VW in my sig is what I drive a lot though....40-44 MPG. It pulls like a cummins Dodge too.

Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?

I got 10 mpg uphill,downhill,loaded,unloaded. I tried the Acetone thing 0 results. You can read below about the engine so I won't go there. The best thing I did was rejet the Performer, 700r4 w/lockup, 3.07 gears. I run 255/15r tires. I get 16+ at just under 80 mph or 1850 rpm. steve

I ride my bike. 0 mpg. There is a slightly larger bill at the dinner table, but not a 200% increase over the last 5 years

I just got back from a 500 mile trip in my 68, it has the 5.3 with overdrive and 3.73 gears. I got 18 MPG running with traffic at 75 plus MPH. That is better than my DD...

Yahama V-max. The truck would cost over $200 a week in gas if it was my DD. I used to be able to fill the bike up for $5; now creeping close to $10.

Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?

I ride my mountain bike to work which is good for me, costs no gas money and also saves me $20 a day for parking.
With the money I save on parking alone I can drive my 72 blazer and my 71 pickup where ever I want and not worry about the price of gas. And look good doing it.

Don't forget one thing.
When gas is expensive, everyone is working.
When gas is cheap, not everyone is employed so driving may not be an option.

Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?

Need to check out this website, I think I am going to try it on my 2004 2500HD and see how it effects my gas mileage. It looks like you can install the system on any carborated or injected fuel system so you can use it on any engine. It may be worth the $247 at the price gas is now. This is a Hydrogen Injection System. Not to be confused with a pure Hydrogen burning engine. It claims to increase your fuel efficiency by 31% and increase your horsepower. It also burns hotter so it gets rid of all those carbon deposits on your valves and pistons. And for all of you tree huggers it burns cleaner so its better from an emission standpoint. I am going to do a little more research before I dive in so if there is anyone out there that already knows about this system let me know what you think of it.
Thanks,
JRB

Looking at getting something else myself. I parked the truck early this year and have been driving my wife's Olds and she took over the Caravan.....cut the fuel bill in half....but it still ain't cheap.
I need a moped and two gas cans!!!!

Ok is that hydro-gen thing for real? And have there been any consumer reports on it?

The energy you may gain comes from combining(burning) the hydrogen with oxygen. The electical energy used to liberate the hydrogen from the water should exactly equal the energy released when burning it as fuel. No net energy gain there in my book.

I havn't,if anyhting it will probably be a little worse with an RV Cam and bored to a 407BB. I figure if president Bush can drive his big white crew cab on his property then the fuel problem must not be as bad as he says,I'd like to see him drive a 4 cylinder toyota or Nissan. I think the truckers in our country hold a lot of the power around our country and should give Bush one week to get the fuel prices down or park all of their big rigs around the country until the prices come down.I willing to bet the prices would come down very quickly.Sorry ,just venting a little.

Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?

I still think that if its amps you need I see heavy duty alternators for huge stereo amps in cars and if all you need is amp then buy a heavy duty alternator (130amp) alternator and generate the power you need to get the benefits of the better gas milage. It doesn't take any more HP to turn a 130amp alternator than it does to turn a 60 amp.(I stand corrected) I talked with an engineer at Delco and he told me that in there tests a 100amp Alternator take 3HP to turn and a 200amp alternator takes 6 HP. I still think the Gain outweighs the Loss. At these gas prices it will pay for itself. I am tired of waiting for the government to make it better. The town I live in decided it would be ok for the Mayor and the City Councel to vote in a 2 cent gas tax without putting it to a vote on the ballot. Last time that happened a lot of tea got dropped in Boston Harbor. Are these friggin people on CRACK?????

Re: Gas $3.12/gal - What have you done to improve MPG?

I have been getting 17-18 MPG highway in my 1970 C10 But:
It has a 1977 305 in it with 185,000+ miles (It was a free engine, and the 350 is waiting for $$$to be rebuilt);
I rebuilt the 2 barrel Rochester. Also, replacing the float made a big improvement;
Power Nothing;
A TH350 transmission;
3.73 rear axle;
P235/75R15 rear tires, P235/70R15 in front, but the front is waaaay out of alignment;
And a light foot.
I hope to make some improvement with a 700R4 this summer.
