Re: pie cutting 69 to 72 hood

It seems like it's a lotta less work making a 67-68 hood work in a 69-72 than actually pie cutting a 69-72 hood to look like an earlier one, call me crazy

Ok ~Crazy~ You are right if you look at it that way yes it is way more work. My self I do not see it as making it look like a 67-68 since the front slope is nothing like the 67-68 and if you look at the sides of the hood from the front you will notice the 69-72 is much wider on the raised portion then the 67-68. I see it as making the 69-72 have a bit more of a sportier look while keeping the looks of the stock front end (grill and what not) while at the same time making slight changes that like I said before most people would never notice. Then again I really enjoy doing tons of work for a little change! So I guess I should be calling my self crazy

Re: pie cutting 69 to 72 hood

I first saw this mod several years ago on a truck in one of the mags.Classic Trucks (I think).Gold and white stock appearing paint and truck looked fairly stock. The article did not give details it was on a feature truck. You would not have noticed it unless you were a 67-72 fan like the BB members here. You might have known something was different but not what.
Now the article did quote the owner as saying he would never ever attempt that mod again. He claimed(in the article) That it was a lot of work for little difference. That said, there were a lot fewer of these trucks around being built and few people would have noticed. Now I know at least 20,000 people who would see it.I like the laid back look myself but I think I would go with slightly less rake to make it even more cornfusin for people.
I also like the simplicity of the 67-68 hood better myself but that is just a personal thing.

Re: pie cutting 69 to 72 hood

There was a red and black truck with silver stripes that had this mod done as well as having the windshield layed back slightly. Looked pretty good. I think it was in Truckin' or one of the other magazines back in the early to mid 90's. Not sure if I still have that issue or not, I'll have to look in my big @ss box of magazines. If anybody has any more info on it, that would be great!

Re: pie cutting 69 to 72 hood

I think I saw where the 67/68 hood is about 2" longer from front to rear and the hood latch mechanism is all different than the 69 to 72. If that's the case modding the 67/68 hood to fit would also be a lot of work.

Re: pie cutting 69 to 72 hood

It seems like there is a core support issue also (as far as just slapping a 67-68 hood on to the 69-72)? The green truck that has been posted was at pigeon forge a couple years ago (looks like this photo was shot there). That truck was really sweet and understated.

Re: pie cutting 69 to 72 hood

For some reason, the red and white truck looks funny. I'm not sure why....it just looks funny. Is it because it's missing a bumper? The Green shorty and the 'burban look sweet though. You would almost overlook it if it wasn't pointed out. It just seems to flow.
I personally prefer the '71-'72 front end, hood and all but I'm kinda digging the '67-'68 hood thing goin' on here.

But my self I just like doing things that most people would not notice or just think is all stock. Think about the 64 4dr Crew cab I am building for a customer and how cool it will be when the first person comes up to him and tells him "my dad had one just like this".

So am I nuts for liking alot of work for small visual changes

guess what i found an original 66 crew cab 4x4..its either a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton ..... or an original dealer option of some sort.. thats right it was built for the oil drilling rigs in alaska. guy drove it all the way back to iowa. its got a giant wench on the front of it. had a very clean body. hardly any rust. but the box was beat and interior trashed. the guy said he would take 8000.00 dollars for it. wish i had pictures...
