Re: 68 custom camper?
My buddy Lars an old race car expert modified a reese for Me...It bolts to exsisting holes...have welder will modify...try that then there is no bumper issues...grab an old one anywhere and make it fit...By the way that ride rocks...Its a custom...I'm sure of that not a custom camper...GMC Had custom camper door letters not emblems though...yours says custom right and its an emblem correct? black with blue and red rectangles...custom letters in chrome?

Re: 68 custom camper?
All the hitch companies recomend against welding on the recievers, buit if you are a real good welder, or know one, it's cool.
I can't wend to save my life, My welding looks like some one dumped liquid slag all over the place. |

Mine just has the Custom emblems, and they are original. Even if it's not a custom camper it is optioned the same, just dont have the emblems. Thats fine with me. I'm more that happy with it. As far as the hitch goes, I dont think I'll be cutting and welding on one. I'll just stick with pullin my boat, its not heavy and I'm only a couple of blocks from the lake. You have a very sweet truck barepaint. You plan doing anything with it, (wheels, tires, drivetrain mods) or stayin all original?

Re: 68 custom camper?
That weld on those bumpers wasn`t an easy one to get penetration on since the plate is like 1/2" and the rest is prolly 3/16".On a weld like that, the thinner metal wants to melt before the thicker is penetrated. You`re good, though.Just keep an eye on it.Get us a picture with the boat hooked-up,maybe at the water.
They don`t want anyone welding or modifying hitches to protect their liability. There`s no voodoo to it.I`ve made plenty of hitched, bumpers, and altered more. There`s a Business in my area called "Trick Trucks" and they are "the place" to go for your custom truck stuff. They are so lame. All they do is order stuff for you, mark it up,charge shipping, and offer to take more money for "bolting" the part on.I wanted to get a chrome step bumper to put on my`90 Blazer(the real one),but they didn`t list one.I told them to just get the pickup one,it`s work. They said there were wires that ran through the brackets on Blazers,so they`d have to drill holes for them and re-route the wires. They didn`t want to get involved in a liability situation. They didn`t even want to just mess with the wires and tie them up w/o going through the brackets."What if your lights go out and someone hits you? We`d be liable."

Re: 68 custom camper?
Nice boat. Can`t wait to see the combo.BTW,I just started a thread for that kind of picture. On the Custom Camper discussion,I thought I`d mention the`67 GMC Camper Cruisers. That was a unique model and way cool.I think they were all 3/4tons.This is one fine example:
Emblem of front fenders:

Re: 68 custom camper?
You`re a redneck if the big motor is in the bow.

Re: 68 custom camper?
A little "dry" humor on my part. You would think a 50th anniversary would have been worthy of an emblem. If it was today, you better believe it would be all over it.
