Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

That's gotta help the motivation factor for sure. Please paint black and let me know when it will be ready for pick up. I'll bring a trailer so I don't nick it on your road!

Powell72 - Three cans of Krylon and she'll be ready. NOT!! LOL

ChevyDude - Slow down bro, one lil' Red at a time! That hood is growing on me.... I think I will like it alot better when it is in color.

Matt - The rear bumper was, um, necessary to, um, uh, make sure I had the bed on straight. Yeah, that's it!! Hehe!

I'm thinking it's about time to start ordering paint!

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

Glock, I have a cowl hood on this 71' and I kind of reacted the same way when I set it on there. But in the last few days I'm liking it.

What color for the 68'???

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

Your truck looks just like that advertisement they run in classic trucks magazine. Sweet progress. I like the cowl hoods too, but like you, I'm just not sure if it fits with my truck. I don't have any real power under the hood anyway

It's growing on me too. The base coat will be a color called Candy Brite Blue from Auto-Air Colors. It is a water-based paint, then I will clear it with DuPont Chromaclear Premier.

67ChevyRedneck - I'm thinking I should send some pics to Goodmark!

I sure do, for the past 11-1/2 years now! She is the daughter of a wheat farmer, so she is not afraid to jump in and get her hands dirty! Especially when it comes to her Harley. That bike means to her what my 68 means to me. They are our "other" two babys!

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

Yup, same as yours I believe. Chrome Vette ralleys, and I have the "Disc Brake" caps on them. But I think I want to switch to the derby caps like yours, because I like the way the black lines reflect off of the wheels.

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

SWEET!!! I love the way the Vette Chrome rally's and derby caps look! I got my wheels off ebay from a guy in Florida...my wheels are made by Pacer.

FYI, Glock....I am an FFL dealer. Any Glocks, Springfields, Colts, Para Ordinance....you name it can be had at dealer cost. ))!!!

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

I added a pic to the above post. I got mine from a guy in California, Daves Rally Wheels. These are Wheel Vintiques. Got a really good price from him.

When I first built this truck, I did the front disc conversion, but left the 6-lug rear in it. So I had 5 lug in front, and 6 lug out back. But you couldn't tell with the caps on. So when I torn the truck down and got the new rear end, I sold the two 6 lug wheels and ordered another set of 5 lug wheels for the back.

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

Nice! I have been thinking about building another AR-15, so I may be ordering a lower receiver sometime in the near future..... Just finished up two 1911's a while back. Built one on a stainless Caspian receiver for my son (the serial number is his first initial, last name, then his birthday), and built another one on an 80% frame (no S/N) using surplus parts for the rest. $300 total into that one!

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

Cool, before you purchase I can always check prices and see if they can be had cheaper. Here are the Pacer Chrome rally's w/ Derby Caps, with 235x60x15 tires on 15x7 wheels:

Were'nt you originally planning on putting an LS1 or Fuelie LT1 motor in it? Could be mistaken but that's what I thought your plan was. If so what changed your mind ?

Wasn't me....although I would love to have an LS1 with a 4L80E in it! I will be running the same 350 that I had in it before, expecially since it only has around 100 miles on it! But the TH350 is brand new.

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

Just what you need to get motivated........every time I see mine looking more like a truck again, it gets me going.

Gonna look great and I can understand about the cowl hood, visually it shortens the hood.....sure it will look better when painted. I also think the cowls look more at home on the 67-68s. I came soooo close to putting one of those front ends on my 72.

Personally I like the disc brake caps and/or police caps. Shallow caps make the wheel look deeper....just my thoughts.

How's your tailgate fitting?

Re: Holy crap!!!!! Look what I did!

Tailgate actually fits pretty good. The only real issue I have with it is the spot welds on the outer edges running up and down are crappy. If you aren't careful, you could lose a finger with the "fangs" sticking up from the welds. It will take a little massaging, but it should work out OK.

I am still up in the air with the hood. I personally think the 67-68's are the absolute best looking front ends on these trucks, period. I have one 67 and two 68's. My 70 is a gift from my father, he bought it in 72 or 73 from the original owner, so it will stay all original and correct. So for me, it kind of takes away from the look I want for the truck. But we shall see......
