Re: need some help with determining a fair price!

For me I don't care, cause I have a price that I am willing to pay for the truck and no more (all that I can afford) . If I get further with the owner I'll find out and let you know.

To claim that it has an Manual 3 spd. with overdrive is ridiculous. What am I missing here? What controls do the Gear Vendor OD units have?

Nope, not ridiculous GM put a 3sp OD tranny in some trucks back in 1967-68. There were other years too, but 67-68 were the only trucks out of the 67-72 family to get this "rare" tranny. It was used in some cars and trucks prior to 68 and it was again used in the 70's and early 80's?? in some GM trucks. Not 100% sure on how it worked, but once it was in 3rd gear you pushed in a button, hit the throttle petal a certain way in the OD would engage. I think giving it a hard tap again turned it off??? Anyway, that's kinda how it worked.

I don't know anything about the transmission in the truck that Alex is looking at BUT, I do know about the Gear vendors since I have one in my CST. It is actuated by a floor button...like a dimmer switch. There is a small box that mounts under the dash which allows the driver to select auto or manual operation. In auto mode, the GV unit shifts into overdrive at around 45 mph. In manual mode, the driver can shift it into overdrive at any time. I like mine. It was pricey but hey, it's only money.

Re: need some help with determining a fair price!

I offered $3000 and the owner said he would only come down to $5000. So, we are stuck for now....$5000 buys alot more truck than he has IMHO.
