Re: It's Semi-Official - I'm getting a Shop
Not defending anyones comments, but did you read the ADDITION part?
I can get a stand alone to match the house for $32,500. But that listed above is an addition, with a whine cellar, tractor bay, and storm shelter all UNDER the floor of the 3 bay garage, hence part of the extra cost, I was prepared to spend $50K and have 2 other guys coming out to make offers and or bids, but we may go the stand alone route since it is alot cheaper, but we really wanted it all quote un quote - Under one roof

OHHHH, I missed the addition part. My bad. That does add on to the pricetag just a little tiny bit.

Re: It's Semi-Official - I'm getting a Shop
No sweat, I was having trouble w/ the whole bid myself, I actually
called the guy that bid me the detached shop today and asked him to come back out, just to see if he's as far off my budget as this guy was.

Re: It's Semi-Official - I'm getting a Shop
Update
My builder was out Wednesday (Guy that built my house in 2002) and he thinks he can do it all (Everything I asked for ) for around $45K. The floating the floor in the 3rd bay, adding to the existing structure, and all of the Brick is where most of the money is. But ............. since it will be attached I will end up with both garages as one. (1680 sq. ft.) and then there will be the approximately 12 x 32 (384 sq. ft.) storage underneath the 3rd bay for 67-72 parts. I'm pretty stoked but it will NOT be even started when i have my fall meet (Feb. 08 is the tenative start date)

Re: It's Semi-Official - I'm getting a Shop
I bought 5 acres with a house, some outbuildings and a 40x80ft insulated shop. Could have bought 2 1/2 acres with the house and outbuildings for$140,000. An extra $39000 bought the whole deal. Previous owner told me the 40x80 building wired, insulated, bathroom, office and plumbing/septic cost about $90,000 to build.
A budy has priced a similiar building to mine. Just the concrete and building would run close to $40,000. Don't include wiring or anything except maybe insulation. If you build a shop, be sure and make it plenty big. A 40x80 seemed huge when I got it. Seems barely adequate now. |

Re: It's Semi-Official - I'm getting a Shop
Well, it's a new year, now I have to get a updated bid, but last night
while on our way to my Dad's to carry him out to eat dinner she said; "About the shop, Call Richard (House Builder) and see when he can do it" I almost ran off the road from the shock, I had given up on the idea. So I am still not excited yet, but hope to be if we break ground soon.

Now that's a good reason to bring up an old thread. Yes, I was paying attention. I remember when this thread was new.

Give the lift (hoist) serious consideration. I sold enough stuff on eBay to buy a 2 post hoist and it's one of the best upgrades I have made. It really makes working on these old trucks a lot more fun.... Remember, for the two post the concrete has to be 6" thick in the area where the hoist will go. I don't think the thickness is a big deal for the four posters though. You will love the shop, for sure. LockDoc

Re: It's Semi-Official - I'm getting a Shop
Doc, 2 of the bays will have a higher ceiling just for that reason. The far left
bay will have a bay under it so no rack there is possible. (We are also going to step the roof back down to balance out the look over the 3rd bay) That design on page one has been tweaked a little. (Hensce getting a newer bid) Btw, thanks for paying attention "ShortHair" I'm hoping this time it's a go

Re: It's Semi-Official - I'm getting a Shop
Update
2 weeks before starting on this my neighbor calls and says ..... "You once mentioned if we ever moved you would be interested" To make a long story very short, I bought out my neighbor and gained a 16 x 80 3 bdr trailer, a 24 x 24 shop, and 5 acres. I have spent the last 2 weeks cleaning it out, pressure washing the floor, staining and sealing the floor, and started moving the toys, parts, and tools over there yesterday. I'll have pic's later. It's about 700 sq/ft smaller than what I was going to build, but adding 5 acres + the rental trailer will make up for it in the end.
