Re: After 24-1/2 years, she walked out on me.

Asset Protection is what I do for a living.

If he puts the truck in someone else's name it could very easil;y be reversed in a divorce (read civil) trial (sometimes referrred to as a proceeding to make it sound better).

The reason it is so easily reversed is there will most likely be no economic consideration. Now if he sold it (economic consideration) then she would want the money and he would have to produce that.

Also...this period is known as "stormy seas" as far as creditors go...and she would be his creditor as she may want something he has. Once you enter this period anything you do (hiding assets etc) could be considered a badge of fraud and the opposing counsel can seek a fraudulent transfer ruling and have it reversed.

Better to give her what she wants and just get the heck out with the truck.

As long as I had my truck I would live at the Y.

Cheers,

Tim

24 years is a long time to be married....and then to end after all that, sounds like she just wasn't happy, why drag it out for so long? Sorry to hear about the divorce, seems like the best idea for both of you guys....nice truck though to have!

Hey Dave,

There's a great resource to help you get through this and it's only right down the road... Rick's Gentleman's Club off the Beltway.

Seriously though, sorry to hear about your troubles. Get a good lawyer and protect that truck!

Best of luck. I cannot say that I have been there, and hopefully I never will be. But it sounds as though you did more than your fair share to keep the marraige intact. I guess you might have to ask, after all that, what is it really you are trying to save.
Just remember this...IT IS HER LOSS!

Sorry for the loss of your wife. Hopefully she will find what she is looking for and you will fill the hole in your heart with someone better.

Dang that's a nice truck.....

I know you will not believe me at this point but, it only gets better. I had the same experience 7 yrs ago now. Now, I will say I do have cold feet about getting married again but I have an awesome girlfriend this time so I may take the plunge again. Plus, I still have my 72 2wd blazer and my girlfriend just bought me a 72 swb cheyenne. Hang in there buddy and gorgeous truck. I have the clone to yours in my garage.

There are too many good, decent people in the world. Life is too short to spend it with people that don't make you a better person. I am sure you drive the truck with a big smile and that is livin' right.
