Re: Its here; I got another truck!

Nice truck!! Nothing like a Low buck Diesel to get my heart pumping.

My 79 has hydroboost, night and day difference from a vacuum booster, use it if you can but yeah, will run it the flare vs. o-ring issue unless you swap the whole steering setup over from the 84.

That clicking sound could be a bad solenoid... One thing to slide under and check, make sure the starter is bolted up right with all the bolts in place. the 6.2L starters would break a bolt if not shimmed and tourqed correctly. Thet would get the starter out of alligment and cause it to bind. I just hope the block is cracked / broken off where the starter bolts up.... that happened often too after a bolt broke.. it could be another reason why the truck was parked and left for dead.. Busted block is an expensive proposition.

Just as stated above the reason it won't start is probably a bad IP or glowplugs, heck it could have been run out of fuel, I have seen many a diesel discarded because someone ran it out of fuel and the injection pump lost it's prime, and they were told that the IP went bad..

You can get running with out glowplugs or if it's lost it's prime pretty easily, use "The Gas Rag Trick" That's from the Olds Diesel page but it'll work on an 6.2L too. If the engine is runnable it will get it running so at least you can check the head gasket or for a cracked main web. It works, when I got my 79 it had been run out of fuel and sat for 3 months with the fuel system taken apart. I put the lines back together and had it running in less than 10 minutes with the gas rag trick. What ever you do DO NOT USE STARTING FLUID!!! Just make sure you have a good strong 800CCA or so battery.

If the engine runs good and has no issues you'll be able to get a few $$$ for it, there is always someone looking for a decent running and cheap 6.2L. Speaking of which DODO Brown or not if that dash pad isn't cracked it'll fetch a few bucks too, hell you could make a profit on that truck.

The gas and diesel tourqe converters on a 700R4 are different but not hugely so, you ould get by with it.I have a gas 700R4 I am going to put in my diesel (eventually) I bought a diesel TC for from someone on GM-Diesel.com a while back, it teh timing works out you can have my old gas one for the price of shipping it. Some of the 700R4 diesel trannies also had different govenors and valve bodies setup for lower shift points but, on a 84 most likely not.

yes, as said the Don't Start/Glow Plug/Water in Fuel Light in the bezel is wired seperatley from the rest of the dash wiring and is hooked to the glow plug circuit directly.

Just be careful working around a diesel... If you get it running you might just wind up like me... addicted to diesel...

Re: Its here; I got another truck!

Yup, just an idea. What I was saying was to use the dash pad, guage cluster, bezel and pad from your new truck in your 80. The das pad can be dyed and everything should just drop in. The only issue you would have is the glow plug/ water light and you could always put somthing clever in that spot or swap the bezel. A 89-91 blazer/ sub bezel would be ideal due to the radio face part. That would keep your wipers etc. on the column.

Re: Its here; I got another truck!

More pics.

Trailor-brake equiped?

I really like the gauges. The needles aren't as faded as the picture makes them look.

The documentation, plus the tailgate emblem that was floating around in the bed.

Grille, mint condition.

So, could I simply swap sending units and use my gas motor oil pressure gauge? What about my "Unleaded Fuel Only" gauge from Ol' Red? Direct swap or must I swap sending units as well?

Re: Its here; I got another truck!

Yup, that is an OLD school trailer brake controller.
Are you talking about swapping your gas truck guages to the diesel truck? Or are you asking if the diesel guages will work in your gas truck? I think the fuel guage will work with either sending unit, but the oil pressure guage should use different sending units. With the oil press, it would be best to replace the sending unit anyway because the go out often and don't read as accurate when they get old.

Re: Its here; I got another truck!

Gas Gas Gas. The diesel is going away, nor will there EVER be a diesel in my truck. So.... my gas gauge will work fine in place of the diesel gauge? I figured the oil pressure would be different since the min/max are different.

Re: Its here; I got another truck!

The guage clusters should be interchangeable and the guages in the clusters should interchang. So, yes, I am pretty sure it will work, but I have been wrong before.
