TEXAS: cool & easy old license plates, no mileage restrictions

I also am going with original plates. Utah allows a vehicle to be registered with the same plates as the year of the vehicle.

So I contacted some license plate collectors and have located a number of pairs of plates that can be registered (I check the plate numbers with DMV before purchasing). The plates are between $75 and $100 from the collectors.

ONe thing I found out was trucks in 68-72 had 6 numbers and autos had 2 letters and 4 numbers. I actually found some truck plates.

There is no extra charge through Utah for the old plate registration.

I have a set of vintage 1967 plates on my truck here in Virginia. I believe there was a one time $35 charge. You don't need to have the vehicle inspected with those plates on it. The catch is you are only supposed to take it back and forth to shows or meets, or repairs within a 50 mile radius. From my own experiences and everyone else I've talked to in Va, if you get pulled over just come up with a half way decent excuse, the cops don't care unless you abuse it and use it as a daily driver.

i don't think you have to get an antique inspected in tx...that's the one plus to those ugly-ass plates you get. my father in law collects tri-5s and has them all antique tagged; he's never had them inspected and says you don't have to. he's been at this for years so i trust his advice.

Do not forget that som police like old trucks and know everything about the old plates.

I am running 1969 Texas Truck plates. The process was easy as Clay described and I wasn't given a metal plate either. I bought mine, NOS, for about $45-50 off of E-bay. There was even faded paper between the plates that advertised for the Huntsville Prison Rodeo (I might get that framed).

Mike you really need to find some really old plates and get rid of that antique thing.

I did get mine framed, it came out nicely.

i gotta add my situtation

on my 72, i went to the registration office last week for my antique plates. my truck was already registered so it cost me $4.74. that's right $4.74. i got a rear license plate that expires in 5 years.

the lady reminded me i could hardly drive it and i told her i bought a honda, which is true. but i've driven the truck twice to work since then. i havent seen cops while driving it yet, and i have a VEEEEEEERY LOUD, bright red truck, 4 header tubes to the ground loud. so i'll update if something happens

The farm trucks should have worked . You can also put same year car tags on your truck , so don't limit your search to truck tags , unless that's what you want .
