Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
I'm definately on the same page here. My dad thinks that I'm crazy for wanting my Grandpa's old truck after he passed. I wish my 2000 was half the truck the ol '69 is (even after all these years).

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
I can really relate to you 71SWBChevy. WHen I first got into older vehicles, it was because I was looking for a new hobby. Eventhough my wife in no way demanded or forced me to sell my motorcycle, she was very uncomfortable while I was out on it. This is mostly my fault, because I didn't know how to NOT do wheelies and other stunts. I had no less than 3 bone-breaking accidents within as many years. It just wasn't fun unless I was being reckless. At any rate, I reluctantly sold the "death machine" the same month we got married, June 2005. I decided I was gonna get into the classic cars. I had been watching the Barrett-Jackson auctions and caught the bug. In the last 16 months I have owned a 70 Chevelle SS, a 71 Nova, a 67 El Camino, and my current 72 SWB 1/2 Ton. The others were purchased, fixed up, and sold for profit. The buck stops here folks!!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY TRUCK!!! I may get into other classics, but there is no way I am giving up my baby. This is just my testimony as to the effect these C-10s have on people. They're like crack Even if I did sell it, it would just be to buy antoher one just like it. I love it so much that I take every opportunity to show it off....and this will be no exception...LOL.
Enjoy!!!

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
Wow thanks alot Aaron. means alot coming from a owner of such a sweet truck like yours. Truth be told my real passion is a 72 cheyenne super in yellow and white or vlack with a red interior and a 3 on the tree. I would part with alot to get my hands on one of them but after owneing this 84 and all of the great times i have had with it i could not let it go. So in the future when i have some money to enjoy i will get a cheyenne super a 1970 GTo The judge with the 455ho and have my my 84 in the garage with them well that is the goal. ha ha ha ha Really nice trucks guys !!

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
I know what you guys are saying. Mine is a 70 C20 camper special, it had the 402/th400(which I still have) but know runs a Cummins, nv4500 combo and is also now 4X4 using 52" rear springs in front and superduty rear springs out back . It has custom bumpers and 37" tires ect. any way I love my old truck . It sucks on a long trip but that is what my new truck is for , this one is just fun to drive. My wife cant under stand why I keep it but its been in the family since 72 and I wont get rid of her unless we were starving, and then it would have to be bad . I plan to pass it down to my son, if he dosnt want it then my daughter. If I can keep it on all fours that long

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
I'm really kinda bummed out about starting my frame-off this winter. I need to go out to the shop and tear it down. I've already taken my last drive-but who knows? Maybe the weather will stay nice for another week and keep the road salt in the bins. Maybe I can go for one more little criuse. I know it's gonna be a couple years or 3 unless I hit the lottery before She'll see the road again. Maybe I'll pick up a truck to drive around in the meantime. Maybe that sweet little '68 big block 2wd that lives down the street. It ain't really for sale, but Dennis says he'll let it go to a good home...

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
I could afford most any car I wanted to buy, I'm selling my 03 and keeping my 85 and 72, I could go buy any new or used truck I wanted (well any new or used I wanted under 55K which is what my credit union said I could borrow "up to" when I bought my wife's Yukon) but I don't -want- a new truck, I want an old truck, with no computers, no "oxygen sensors" and when I get in it I want to know "hey you put a lot of work into this thing and it's 100% uniquely yours, there isn't another one out there identical to it in every way".
And I want it to burn rubber and eat the pavement when I stomp the gas in a way that can only be done by old school American V8's. When I drop my kid off at school I want to stick out like a sore thumb amongst all the minivans, SUV's and assorted foreign made small cars. Mostly because of that obnoxious rumble you can only get form a set of longtube headers, and dual exhaust and a lot of cubic inches. |

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
I have been on several pages of this book. Pages 67,68,69,71. I keep running my eyes over 67 real often. I don't know if it is the picture or the memories it brings back. The cover of the book is shiny black and there aren't any frayed edges anymore. The spine of the book is Real Strong and it is a pleasure to sit down with and just chill out whether its for 10 minutes or for hours. My dad handed me the book when I was 11 years old and didn't understand what it was about but after playing with it for many years before that and about 20 years since it was given to me, I have come to understand it. Thats something a lot of people that aren't on the right page will never know. My page will never leave my possesion as long as I have any say over it and its one page my wife doesn't mind me drooling over for hours. LOL

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
"The Judge" is bad ass!
I've owned a lot of trucks, but I love my '69. My wife hates it and has only ridden in it maybe 3 times in the 2 years I've owned it. My daughter loves it because she thinks "Daisy" is fast If and whe I ever consider my truck done, the next project will be a 4x4 just for kicks. I'll take an older car/truck over a newer one any day. |

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
It was a TIGER under the hood. No, it belongs to a friend of mine. He let me drive it to the "Apple Blossom Car Show" in May of this year. Awsome machine, almost got away from me once. I had a 67 GTO with the 400 C.I. and 4-speed. I kick myself in the Ace for getting rid of it. The '65 is my favorite. We better get back to the truck subject before someone gets mad.

Beautiful Judge! I love that body style. Reminds me of my first car, 1970 Chevelle.

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
I bought my truck 4 years ago from a mechanic. 3 tools and 2 hours later, it fired right up and I drove it away. Sadly, now it's sitting again, but I too am one who butchers stuff for their projects. Tons more reliable than the Fords we have, and it looks better too!
there's a website that's similar to ebay out there (publicsurplus.com), and the city of chicago is selling a 9C1 caprice for $400. It's kinda hard to look at, but it runs and drives fine. I've been incredibly tempted to nab that thing, steal all the suspension out from under it for my Olds, and the engine for my Chevy...

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
Well, I sold my 92 full size blazer to help finance my 72 resto.....after replacing/restoring almost every nut and bolt it was definitely well worth it. I drive the truck everyday and put 6,000 miles since the resto I couldn't be happier with it........

Re: Why 67-72 people are different.
Agreed.
It's funny, I have lots of different kinds of friends. Some that are into hot rods and old trucks and some that aren't. I get asked by the ones who aren't and even people at work why I like to drive something that old and why I haven't "grown out of this stage yet"? I tell em', I'm 37 and if I haven't grown out of it by now it ain't gonna happen They just don't understand what kind of therapy/enjoyment we get outta working on these, planning stages of the project and driving these trucks. On another note, back before I was married I had a '78 little race truck. No paint, no AC....etc. I used to pick up first dates in it just to see their reaction. I weeded out a lot of prospects to get to the ones that said, "man this is a sweet ride!!!". B |
