Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Well,I got out the old sandblaster and sandblasted the frame.I didnt do all the frame or take all the rust off down to the bare metal but I did take off most of the rust before dark.I have another 2 afternoons of work ahead of me before all the frame is sandblasted and in bare metal then I have to do the axles.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Today I just cut off some not stock brackets mostly for the exhaust and did some minor work to the frame and looked for any issues I need to adress as well as cleaning up some spots to weld up w/ the mig welder next week.More progress to come in the next few days including the inspections of the differentials and seeing what problems I might encounter there.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
How much media did it take to blast the frame and what did you use? I am planning on doing it outside as well and won't be reusing any since it will be in the gravel....thanks..

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
I used silica sand and I forget what kind it is.I will look when I head to the garage tomorrow.I have used over 2 bags but that is including blasting some of the frame on my 69 K10 also.I put a tarp down under it so I can reuse some of the sand.I have probably used over 1 and 1/2 bags on this frame alone and that is only half the frame inside and out and that isnt even to the bare metal, only down to the original frame paint. You have to keep in mind the blaster is my own creation and works but not as well as professional ones and mine takes awhile to build up pressure so some sand is wasted before its pressure build up.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Update:
Motor still hasnt been took to the machine shop, was busy this week. Spent the day taking off rust and getting the frame in bare metal.I shot primer over that then shot on some black paint.I have over half the frame done but still have more to do.It turned out good, better than the frame did on the 69 K10 or my old 71 C/10.I will try to get pics tomorrow of the frame.I would have liked to get the frame powdercoated but I am spending the money on other stuff for the truck and I just want it together so I saved money and time and painted it. Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Spending quality time off working on the truck.I am hooking up everything at the moment to get the rest of the frame cleaned up and then shoot some primer.Hopefully the frame is 100% done by tomorrow.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
You're moving right along on that project. I always wonder how JY's justify asking $350 for a truck they say they are going to crush...and get $5-$10 for it. You'd think they'd give a guy a break once in a while (

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Clean some frame, shoot some primer, then shoot on the paint.Repeat as necessary... Took of the differential covers and found no metal shavings,Thank god.Just got done painting the diff. covers and they are drying.I am running low on paint so when I run out today I am going to get the cab in the garage and work on it.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
I am using Rustoleum gloss black paint.I cant tell how much I have used because I have used alot and lost track.I am trying to get the frame looking good so if I see a run or an imperfection or something I will think about all night I will go through and take it off and repaint it.I used some sandable primer first before the paint and when I am done it will have a clear coat for some protection on top of the paint.I have put on 2 coats so far of paint. Its time consuming but it looks good.
