Re: Son of a... Another stolen truck in the Seattle area
could it have been towed due to expired plates?

Re: Son of a... Another stolen truck in the Seattle area
Well, Merry Christmas to me indeed.
I was out of town all weekend and sometime EARLY Saturday morning I was awakened by my cell phone ringing. The Seattle PD had just taken my truck into custody. The officer I spoke to had pulled it over earlier, but the plates had been switched and they came back clean, so the 2 guys in the truck got away. The details were sketchy (maybe he was intentionally vague), but at some point later they found the truck and were trying to track down these air-wasters on foot. The plates were switched, and the VIN tag had been ripped off. He got a partial VIN of the door and gave me a call to identify it. I still haven't even seen it yet, but at least it was still in driving condition. And since it was full of stolen goods (probably other peoples' Christmas presents) I'm not sure when I'll get to pick it up since it's evidence in the multiple-burglary case. I don't know much more than that, but my aunt's a detective and she's going to pull the case when she gets a chance. I'm sure I'll be back with more noob questions as soon as it's back in my driveway. Thanks to everyone who kept an eye out. |

Re: Son of a... Another stolen truck in the Seattle area
More drama. It's finally home, but I thought I'd share the story.
It was found on Saturday 12/30 by the Seattle PD. Lincoln Towing took it to their Aurora Ave lot where it was being detained on a police hold due to the stolen property found in it. Sometime on the night of 12/31 or early 1/1, someone cut the chain-link fence along the backside of the lot, and cut the netting of the adjacent driving range. Then they took it for a joyride in the driving range, and eventually got it stuck/high-centered while trying to get out along a walking path in the neighboring woods. Damage is surprisingly minimal. The windshield is smashed on the passenger side, and the ignition switch is buggered (see other thread). Other than that, it's just a little muddy and stinks of cigarette smoke. I spent 3 hours yesterday cleaning out all the crap and miscellaneous stolen property that the cops left for me to sort out (and searching every nook and cranny for drugs or whatnot). It's getting some security equipment installed as soon as I can get the ignition switch figured out. Battery is removed for now and it has a new brake lock. LoJack, kill switch, alarm are all waiting. |

I'd ask the cops to run a drug dog thru it just to be sure you didn't miss anything.

Re: Son of a... Another stolen truck in the Seattle area
Well, what is it about your truck that makes em want to steal it? Twice? Same guy, different guy, just trying to prove he can take it again?

Re: Son of a... Another stolen truck in the Seattle area
Living in L.A.my ears are fine-tuned to the noises of someone trying the 'ol five finger discount.
A while back I was awakened by a small noise out on the street.I went to the window 95% asleep and saw this crew working on my neighbors car.So I went for the 12 gauge and stuck it out the window in an attempt to scare them off but the worthless maggots didn't hear me or see me,so I squeezed of a round of birdshot up into a nearby tree. Now THAT really woke me up big-time! I put down the piece and looked out the window and guess what? No more bad guys. Next day I told the story to my neighbor and he said he couldn't understand why anyone would break into his car and then leave his cell and all his stuff sitting there. Now he gets it. I told the ditzy blond next door and she says "What if you had hit a bird in that tree!!??"-LOL-cougar Anyway glad you got it back.

is right. I mean, it's in decent shape, but it's not perfect by any means. I have no idea what the deal is. They didn't even catch whoever took it the second time so I have no idea if they're related at all. When the detective comes to pick up the big box of stolen stuff, I'll make sure he brings a dog. I don't know why they wouldn't just take the stuff out instead of trying to steal it from the impound lot, though... Thanks for all the well-wishes. And now the questions shall begin |

Most vehicles aren't stolen to be parted out..they are stolen for joy riders...our vehicles are very easy targets...easy to get in...easy to wire..
