Either way, it is a gorgeous truck.

Re: What a survivor?

I noticed the location of the Custom Camper door emblems, the location is different from my truck and from some other trucks I found on the net AND also from the assembly manual.
The assembly manual states it is for 1968 model year and the location could have changed over the years, but it looks like the emblems are to much forward on the eBay truck.

Re: What a survivor?

A few things mentioned... the rust on the door latch, and on booster.... I wouldn't question those personally... the latch was unpainted 34 years ago, I would be wondering if there was NO rust on that.
The chalk on the firewall... original, ALL 67 - 72 trucks hasd it.
The rims/tires (expected) and hubcaps are not as original, period.
The custom camper badges... I've seen them lke that, but I still question it.
Some on easked about the chrome latch on the gate... that is only on a super cheyenne... this is a low end truck, had trim and some chrome ordered, but as far as optional trim level goes, it's the lowest package avalible.
I'm kinda wondering about the A/C vents... again, just a small issue, but they should be the same color as the original column, so they should be green.
It's a D@MN good looking trucks though.

Re: What a survivor?

you know this is not my first ride with old cars and trucks..i think this is a bogus truck..but unless it was in a climate controled storage unit,,there is no way it came out of storage in that good of shape..i have seen low milage cars and trucks stored in barns,,sheds what ever...mice, love them..most likly the mice would have tore the inside of the truck and under hood are up..even with a good detailing,,i just dont believe this truck is for real...just my opion..i personlay wouldnt buy the truck,,whats was the old saying about being to good to be true..

I still have the same tires that I installed in 1967 on my old Jeep AND they are recaps to boot. It has seen most of it's years outside....only it's last 7 years have been under roof in the Quanset.

IF this great pickup had been stored under roof all these years, the original tires would have been in wonderful condition.

It's a nice restoration, but it's not original.

Re: What a survivor?

many years ago, golden state pickup parts bought a 71 cheyenne with something like 1300 original miles, it still had the dealer installed plastic floor protectors in it. it had lived in a garage all it's life and the owner would move it a little each year and it looked super nice but still had oem tires etc. the original owner bought it to replace his work truck but after he bought it he decided he liked his old truck better and just parked it in his garage.
this truck on ebay looks nice but too many things don't look to be original. i'm not saying anything bad about the truck--it looks very nice, but i'm unsure about it being unrestored. it appears to be a nice repaint/restoration and as stated earlier i would like to see it in person before i'd say its a fraud. whoever buys it will obviously get a very nice truck but if it has had some resto work done the seller should disclose it.

Re: What a survivor?

The seller emailed me after I questioned him on eBay. His response.......
"I didn't say it was the original paint you bone head! I had it
matched perfectly when it was painted because of some sun fading
on the left side, the rest was perfect. And do you think I would
leave 34 year old tires on there? GET A LIFE!

I wonder how this guy can justify calling it a survivor? IMHO, a survivor is a vehicle that is the same as it came out of the factory(ie, paint, wheels, hucaps, engine, trans, etc, all untouched). It would be understandable that a few wearable items would be changed, but not a re-paint.

I've seen the announcers on Barret-Jackson pick apart a "survivor" Camaro, because it had a non-original hoseclamp and rad cap.

Not only would they be in great condition due to being stored out of the sunlight, They would be VERY desirable and be a great asset to the pickup.

Great restoration but not original

Re: What a survivor?

Guys, I'm selling the 72 on ebay you all are talking about. I did have at re-painted to it's original color, the cost was close to 5 grand to match the original paint. There was just a little fading on one side, I should have left it. Tires are new, and I had the hubcaps redone to original condition, and a fuel filter was put into the fuel line to make sure no bad gas went in....

Re: What a survivor?

I sent the seller an email....I want to see it and it is local here.

Comment about the people in Utah...about the same I have met and lived with anywhere else. I have only been here 10 years. I have lived on the other 4 corners of the country and some in the middle. They all (no matter where they are from) have their spin when it comes to dollars leaving or entering their pocketbooks. There are good folks like mjensen and his buddy scott...no matter where you live.

My mouth is on my chest and my shirt is getting wet with all the drooling. Could it be real? I will let you know...I am going to bring my creeper with me and crawl underneath.

Re: What a survivor?

Around here (Colo Springs) there's a truck like this, but 4wd. It's about the same color green too. Out towards Divide there's another (or the same?) truck just like it and is going for around $10,000. I stopped by the one in town a while back (was at K B Motors on Platte near Boulder) and it looked great. Survivor? Why not? You all have seen ebayers selling "rare" trucks... many times right on top of one another. I've seen one guy saying his 72 stepside was rare as hen's teeth but the next two or three trucks were also 72 steps. WOW! RARE!

I wonder about the huge red wire hanging around the front of the engine bay, wrapped around the brake reservoir.
About the fuel line, it looks like there's an in-line filter there. I've done that plenty of times.
It would be better if it had the tach and a 4 speed, IMO.
Shouldn't there be a Custom emblem (or something) on the glove box?
And...
What's the knob/button above the left side A/C vent for? Auxillary fuel tank?

At any rate, I'd get it and take back east to re-sell at Carlisle or somewhere for a grip then start over with another K10.
Of course I post this too late to see the last few posts that answered some of my concerns...

Re: What a survivor?

Here is a true surviver with 9,000 miles on it and no repaint. It dose have a little surface rust on the frame but the factory build numbers are still on the fire wall and frame. Its laim though according to most, because its a strait 6 with a three on the tree. Oh and a long bed, no option truck.
