Re: WOW ummmm WOW

Someone has watched too much of the Barrett-Jackson.

It's a pickup truck, for crying out loud.

And is I could build half as well as your doing, I'd be 10 times more happy

In all seriousness, I am very happy with my own progress (I am driving my truck to work for the first time in way too long).

I know one dude who has made money on just about every project he's built (not his day job, but a hobby like ours). It's rare to break even in most cases. But to say "I spent a gaillion dollars and I will take nothing less than a gagillion for it" is wishful thinking.

Re: WOW ummmm WOW

The guy that owns that blue truck built a garge for it, bought an enclosed trailer to haul it in and takes to the larger shows to let people see it. It is driveable, as can be seen in the enclosed picture.

The grille surround is about $550.00 in itself, so you are right. We have LMC and Chevy Duty ( Classic Parts of America), just down the road from us. I have a membership with the KC. Truck Club and we get a 15% discount over the counter as members. This is big help.

PanelDeland The fuel filler is an Arlen Ness filler for a motorcycle tank. It is one that pops up and then unscrews. The fill tube runs down the corner support and over to the tank.

qksilver, Which truck would you buy if it had a small 350 in it. The blue truck does have a 350, it has a later model TPI unit with aluminum Brodix heads, all from Mena, Arkansas.

Re: WOW ummmm WOW

I guess I can appreciate the truck just like the next guy, but in my eyes 70K or 110K is just NUTS. Beautiful rids, just a bit pricey IMHO>

If you are refering to the chrome steel one that LMC sells...do yourself a favor and find a nice original outer grill, buy the billet insert and install it on your truck.

I have the LMC piece and it is a piece...of.....$#!%
The fit of the outer shell is horrendous and the "chrome" is not that great in quality. The ONLY reason I bought it is, I got a SMOKIN' Deal on it.
I do plan on finding a nice original outer and installing the insert in that, then the steel piece will become a decoration for the garage wall...maybe a cool picture frame.

I like your opinion! It matches mine, no way that guy is going to get $70,000.00 bucks for that truck. I have $22,000.00 in mine right now and its still in a million pieces. By the time I'm done I will be around $45,000.00 and feel good about it because I'm doing all of the work except the paint job. I know I would never get what I have in it, that is why it will stay in the family.

No it is a city in the middle of Kansas, about 40 miles from where the owner of the truck lives.

The idea behind the graphics was to blend old with new. The trim work was done to look as if it was factory metal strips and badging, only painted on. The custom stripes are the new phase of it.

However, If I were to have a $110,000 invested, I would have had more than the original gauge panel.

AND you expect anyone else would have a better fitting unit. They are all made in another country (Taiwan, China, or other), probably every outlet gets them from the same place, so that is what is left for us to buy.

I agree that 70k is alot and i would be curious to know what exactly he bought for that truck but when you take the truck to a shop to have them build it for you there is alot of extra things that people don't really think. For example I am sure that the shop will mark up every single piece that they sell him. Not talking labor but wiring harness, gauges and so on. Also since i have been building my truck which is a little different i can verify that there is alot more hours than people think there is. Hours equal big bucks. If there is 2-3 people working on the truck that is 80-120 hrs a week at 65-75hr. If you take 120hrs @75 hr that is $9000 a week + marked up materials. Just saying that things add up real fast. There is no way that i would every pay that much but that is me. I am trying to build a show truck and i will have about 25k in it when i am done but i am doing all the work so there isn't any labor cost and i am not marking up my costs of materials! LOL

Sorry if i repeated what someone else said.

Josh

Re: WOW ummmm WOW

Like Josh said, labor can be a *****. if you want a "name" to work on your rig, it will cost you even more. The stereo shop had a standard rate for my brothers time at $400 a day, $1800 a week labor. The $400 a day was figuring about 5 hours a day of actual work. If there was a deadline involved, you could talk double easy.

Do you know what Shaq paid for his bike that West Coast Choppers built for him? It was Jesse's name on the build sheet, but he only did about 30% of the work.

Re: WOW ummmm WOW

for that kinda money,,im buying a place to park my truck,,and tools to work on it with...so does this mean the value of my old beater has gone up now...the blue truck is nice,,but i think it would be better to build it yourself than to have everybody else build it for me..my truck will be built and able to drive cross country for less than 5000. maybe it ont be as purty,,but i will have doen it all,,except the welding required for replacing rusted panels...

unfortunately, the judges don't care who built it. and if you're building to win, you're prolly gonna try to get the best...

I had to call the guy and see what would make him want that much, he must be crazy. He said he has 66k invested in just parts....Looking at the truck i cant see it. I'll be suprised if he can even get half of what he wants.
