That truck is NICE ! I thought I would post a couple of the pics of the truck I sold about a year ago . It has Rallys (truck 15x8 ) with 255/70/15's rear and 235/70/15's front . It will give you an idea what it would look like with the bumper and a rally style wheel . This truck had 36,000 original miles . Original paint ,interior ,trim ,etc. It also has the small mirrors .Frank

Welcome to the forum KMK454. You have found an unbelievably clean truck. I have to agree with your intentions toward it. If it were a rare Muscle car, then it would be foolish to p!ss away the value of it by driving or modding it. In this case it is just a very nice low mileage truck and it deserves to be driven.

If you really insist on a bed cover then you have two "types" to consider. One is the soft cover that is light weight frame skinned in vinyl. They are cost effective and easy to remove, but don't do the best at keeping inside the bed dry.

The other option is an over the rail type hard cover. I have had great results with Snug-lid by Snug-top. It keeps the interior of your bed fairly dry and if adjusted properly doesn't chafe the paint.

Since the bed is flawless inside I could not bring myself to doing a spray in bed liner. A bed mat will do a great job of protecting the floor but it will rub the paint a little. A bed rug is another option to consider. I have never owned one, but plan to run one in my next daily driver.

If you really want to put smaller mirrors on it you can always shave a carriage bolt head down and insert them through the holes. It will show, but it will really help clean the body lines up.

Personally I couldn't help myself. As much as I appreciated the way my 77 looked stock, I had to cut it up....

Wow. I thought my truck was one of the lower mile vehicles (29K original miles on her when I bought her) but yours has mine beat easily.

I wish mine had been taken care of like yours. Mine sat out in the Pacific Northwest weather and the paint is shot completely. I guess the repaint this summer will fix that. I shouldn't complain, 150 bucks for a 79GMC with 29K miles on it is a steal, bad paint or not.

Nice truck, welcome aboard.

i reallyyyyyyyyyyyy like your truck thats an awsome ride you've got.the only thing i would think bout [hard] would be a wood bed that would really set it off.i have a 91 truck put a bed liiner in and it moved around so much that it wore the paint off of the floor of bed.a cover like n2trux said probably would be your best bet.and i remember those FM converters also, had one in my 1954 ford i had as a kid.

From the factory, wood beds were not available on 73-87 short bed fleetsides.

It would look nice, but painted beds look sooo nice too.
