quick ratio steering box ( which to buy )

My dealing with a so called quicker steering box is that 72 and earlier were 4.5 turns lock to lock. And I know from mid 70 up they were all 3.5 turns lock to lock. It is a definite improvement from original. Plus it isn't so sensitive that I still can be a carefree going down the road and yet it still responds very nicely.

As far a new or reman, It depends on your comfort level with you parts supplier.

I just replaced my leaky box with an Orielly's Cardone one. So far so good. My steering improved greatly. Hope it doesn't wear out too soon. It was a pain in the ass. I had to grind one of the casting bosses down so it would fit in my 67. Going to install my 19 dollar stock sway bar(Junkyard) this week and see how it changes my handling.

My boss suggested I buy an extreme ratio one from Summit. It's not a show or race truck so I went with the less expensive option atm.

Thanks. I tried to get one at cpp that has a lifetiime warranty with it, they do not have them for 4x4.

What is the warranty on yours?

I am replacing a Napa rebuilt that is less than 2 yrs old! So I am looking for something that should be reliable.

Red Head Steering Gears. Not cheap but will probably be the last box you have to buy. I think Wes carries them and they are a better ratio than stock.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread here. I was reading this thread a while ago and decided my 67 needed to have power steering so why not give a 77 c10 box a try. My question is wether anyone knows what I need to do for an intermediate shaft and rag on that. I’m putting in a new tilt column also. Thanks!

My set up using a cpp box, your 67 will not need to be dimpled with this box.

I already bought the steering box. If I have to dimple it’s not ideal but I can do it. I’m just not sure on the intermediate shaft and tag joints.

I used an AGR steering box on my C10. They're a little pricey but I've been happy with the performance.

I'll just reiterate this right here. Just put one in mine and its MUCH better than stock.

I installed a rebuilt Cardone part number 27-7512 that I ordered from Amazon. It's for a 1977 half ton C-10. Works great with no play and no more leaks.

While looking for this same info for myself I noticed a few people referring to the GM800 box used on passenger cars. Way different than truck boxes. They mount on the inside of a wide frame, trucks on the outside of a narrow frame. They are great boxes but basically built 180 degrees in architecture. Won't wok.
