they do a piss poor job at quieting the exhaust down but they add a nice deep bubbly sorta sound to it

yea glasspacks, cherrybombs, bottle mufflers are the same basic thing, and actually glasspacks are quiter than flowmaster type muffles not all of them but the loud ones out there are louder than the shortest glasspack and just a little info for those that dont know the longer the glasspack the quiter it is so if you want loud glasspack sound get the short ones i have true duals with 26in ones and i plan to make it louder with some single chamber racing flowmasters and ive got some headers that im gona put on also

I had the shortest cherrybomb on my 89 dodge dakota with a 4cyl. it also had a 3 in" tail pipe...sounded like 1/2 of a v8 lolol

An X or H crossover will quiet down the system, and can help with the scavenging of the exhaust (more power?). They will also even out the "blurb-blurb-blurb" sound commen on dual systems.

Choosing an exhaust system is a very personal issue, but I like the sound of LT headers into duals, with a x pipe and performance mufflers, dumped before the rear axle.

Your mileage may vary...

A good sized single will make better torque than duals will. You actually lose power with duals. However duals are better than a single if you have an X, but if you think about it with an X they're basically just a big single.

PS: Glasspacks sound cheesy.

I love the sound of a dualed out V8 system with the longest glass packs available(36"??). You can't get a more mellow tone than that.

My truck has a 396 and the bottles/glasspaks ( I think they are about 18 inches long ) were on it when I bought it. My exhaust goes all the way to the back and exits to the side behind the rear wheel. The truck has a nice rumble at idle and a nice tone on the highway, just the way I like it. Its no problem to carry on a conversation or sing along with Credence Clearwater Revival when I'm driving at 70/75 mph on the highway. I've attached a pic of my truck so you can see where the exhaust exits.

That would be 100% accurate.

I remember a buddy of mine telling me that adding an X pipe to his '98 Rustang Slobra was worth something like 40HP. X-pipes do work well.
One big pipe works well also but who wants to look at a school bus exhaust under the bumper

I have Hooker Super Competiton Ceramic headers dual 2.5" pipe & Flowmaster 40's, I thought it sounded great until I heard those single chamber Flowmaster 10's, holy crap, I love the sound of those, I suppose they arn't legal, but I still want them, can you get them from any exhaust place that carries Flowmaster? How much do they cost? What all have you done to the motor on that Camaro? It sounds wicked.

If you actually spend money on a set of glass packs, you will get good performance accompanied with good sound. You buy cheap "cherry bombs", and that is exactly what you have. You get what you pay for.

13 Years ago, I spent $100.00 (employee cost, NAPA) on a set of glass packs, and had dual exhaust put on my Nova. To this day, she purs like a kitten at an idle, and when you mash on the gas, she has a throaty sound.

I am actually due for new exhaust on my 72' p/u. It will take a pretty amazing muffler to pull me away from quality glass packs.

I do But really, for the most part I like my cars quiet. For example, my Impala has a 2' long muffler and a factory looking dump behind the drivers rear wheel. I'm pretty fond of the "KISS" rule.

So what is the big deal about flowmasters anyway? I got a price for duel exhaust with flowmasters delta 40’s @ $400-500 depending on tips.
I said something about dumping them down just before the axel and he said that would save me $100-150.
The mufflers are $179 each. The aluminized pipe is dirt cheap. 10’ for $28.
I’m thinking of buying a stick of 2.25 then pack it full of sand, heat it and bend it myself. It isn’t that hi-tec. Plus packing it with sand will give me nice bends without making it smaller.
$360 just for mufflers, that didn’t sound all that great. I don’t think so.

Midas is where I got the price from. I called back to make sure that wasn’t for two. I really haven’t priced shopped yet. I do know the race ones are smaller though.

Look on Jegs under mufflers for Force Automotive mufflers. They are very similar looking to flow masters and cost only $29.00. A buddy of mine put them on his truck and I think they sound amazing. Sort of like a flow master and a turbo. Very deep and throaty.
