Re: Anyone running a sm465?

well, i think that's what i have. the ID plate on the PS of the tranny has mulitple numerics on it, one seems to be the date, another is 435 and there is a GL on the plate as well. looked in the owner's manual and found what i thought was a match with the NP435GL. not 100% sure, but it seems to make sense.

Re: Anyone running a sm465?

i like the 465 because its such a heavy duty transmission, its one of the last things i worry about breaking on my truck.. but i personally dont like it for a daily driver because it has a short second gear and then third gear is geared far away from second so it sucks for acceleration. it kinda lugs the engine down when shifting from second in to third. third to fourth isnt that bad though. I just had mine rebuilt and i have about 3,000 miles on it now.. if i wouldnt of searched for a 30 spline output shaft sm465 and spent money to have it rebuilt, i think i would switch to a th400 just because i drive my truck everyday everywhere and would like the auto + the different gearing..

The granny low on those is just right for the freeways in L.A. too. Just merge into traffic, and if you have your idle speed set right, just leave it in granny all the way into L.A.
