Quick Robin, to the Batmobile!
I had a friend in HS who's dad was into the '59's, had about 3 of them. It's a car that's so quirky to be cool. Myself, I want a '58 Del Ray... saw one once, and wanted it since.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
Johnnywagon - when you get the Dana 60 install be sure to post what you did in relation to the front rubber brake lines. I think the hard line fitting may be different than what is needed on the Dana 60's rubber brake lines and would like to know if that is correct. Axle's looking great btw.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
Yea, I can see that there is an issue w/the brake lines. I already have the nice, expensive braided 6" lift brake lines from Skyjacker and thier catalog shows different part numbers for one ton trucks. Im think Im gonna have extention adaptors made at the local hose shop to connect the one ton calipers to my 3/4 ton brake lines. I've ordered in some one ton lines just to see but.....well, we'll just have to see. I'll keep ya posted.

Re: I coulda had a Dana 60!
Well, this is what I've figured out...so far. For starters there are different calipers on some one tons. I have the really big single piston type, so I cant speak for what works on the other stuff.
My Skyjacker (#FBL18) 6-8" lift stainless brake lines (that are on my 3/4 ton D-44) will work on the D-60...kinda. They attatch to the caliper just fine. The issue MIGHT be that they now come out at a 90 degree angle rather than straight up. This might cause interference and will effectively shorten the brake hose. I havent found a 90 degree adaptor yet, but Im off the the specialty hose shop later.

I looked at my dana 60 calipers and they sound like the ones you described.

Re: I bought a Dana 60!
One thing leads to another....so this 59 Belair project just fell in my lap. Way too good a deal to pass up. The plan is low buck summer time rat rod, but NOT untill I get the D60 in the Blazer. The problem is as we unloaded it off the trailer the brakes locked up. After a little investigating, 3 stuck wheel cylinders...its been in a field for over a decade w/a dead 6 cyl.
I got one drum off the back...needs shoes, of course. The other rear drum is stuck on, broken adjuster. Any tips on how to pull it off because I gotta get this damn thing rolling so I can get back to the Blazer! I havent even got to the front drums yet! AND yes I know my Chevy collection is way to big for my lil one car garage. Not shown in these pix are two 65 Chevelle wagons and a 71 1 Ton Camper Van.

Re: I bought a Dana 60!
I'm trying to catch up too you Johnny
Got one of the wheels painted. PacFab did an AWESOME job on these H1s. D60 is under the front now: The 14FF needs to have the perches relocated. I have the welds mostly ground off, another 20min or so and they will pop off. THe other H1s are ready for paint too... I need hardware now.

Re: I bought a Dana 60!
FINALLY!! The front u-bolt spring plates were delivered (late) last night. Complete with factory sway bar, half torched off u-bolts and years of fine Alaskan rust. I got em cleaned up and coated w/POR-15 so hopefully everything is down hill from here. I did get some finished pix of my home made front shock mounts.

Re: I bought a Dana 60!
??? Should I use anti-sieze on the big studs that screw into the carrier (rather than a u-bolt on D60's) or what??

Re: I bought a Dana 60!
I hear the best thing for thoes two bolts is to tossum out and install threaded studs and then secure the spring plate with nuts instead of bolts. I have to find out myself what the best way to do that is and if anyone sells a "stud kit". My buddy Ryan did this after his two bolts sheared off one summer

Re: I bought a Dana 60!
To simplify things I ordered a u-bolt kit from Skyjacker. It came with studs!

Re: I bought a Dana 60!
Dumb question - do you have to move the spring perches on the D60 to put it in? I'm assuming No since the pass side mounts right to the center section - but was just wondering.
