Re: new tailgate?
ok so i think i will go with the goodmark gate!
but just it be safe would it be possible to cut out a round hole about 1" at the top or the gate on each end (see picture) and slide a 1" steel pipe through it that pinch weld along the top of the gate. then usesome filler to fix the dinples from the pinch welds?? just a though. because as a truck i will use the bed for things and to the tail gate to sit on from time to time

Re: new tailgate?
I bought my gate from a junk yard for $50 & its in great shape. They had 3 nice ones when I bought it. Looks like I should have bought them all. Just my luck...

Re: new tailgate?
I believe you are fairly close to one of Vendors, maybe pick it up instead of shipping it?

The first aftermarket piece I ever bought as a consumer was a gate for my '78 F250 crew cab- one load of firewood and it spent the rest of it's life being held shut with bungee cords to the stake pockets. I, ironically, went to work for that manufacturer two years later; fortunately they did a lot of other things well. |

Re: new tailgate?
I have bought 2 aftermarket tailgates and both were/are junk. The one I have on now (only temporarily until I can get an original one) got bent when I had it down, leaned into the bed and had my hand on it for support....IT BENT! They are made cheap, cheap and oh yea, CHEAP! I will never go that route again.
That does not even include the fact, like others have pointed out, that they do not follow the factory edges and corners on the top. The bed lined and edges are smooth and rounded, the aftermarket tailgates are more squared and stick out. My $.02 Mike |
