uhhh ,I think the noise was maybe the slots doing their job.....

uhh, no ... slotted / crossed drilled rotors make no more noise than conventional rotors

That makes no sense to me. I thought the slots were there to remove gases and cool the surface. He stated that it was under hard braking.

They would have to make some kind of noise under "hard braking" to remove the heat and gases. Guess I was wrong

Slotted Rotors do make a slight noise while braking.

why would slotted / crossed drilled rotors "have to make some kind of noise under hard braking" versus the amount of noise any other type of rotor makes under hard braking?

please explain ...

My position that they make no more noise than a conventional rotor comes from the experiences that I have had with cross drilled rotors. I have owned several different vehicles with them and have never noticed any more noise versus a conventional rotor. Under hard braking or otherwise. This includes a couple of race/motorsports applications.

First of all the key words are "HARD BREAKING", How hard is Hard? He did not say it makes the noise all the time??? And the holes and slots are really not just for cooool looks. They serve a purpose as to remove heat (removing heat ,better breaks!!!!) and to remove heat easily you could get air moving past the parts (rotor face and pad face) and could get some noise. Dont know thats the way I see itMaybe I am wrong

Re: Drilled and slotted rotors

I have owned three different trucks with slotted rotors. I have put many thousands of miles on them. I have never heard any noise that can be attributed to the slots in the rotors.

My guess would be that any noise heard was caused by pads rather than rotors.
