Not bad for $900. The first thing I would do is get rid of your points distributor and put in an HEI. You can probably get one at a junkyard for around $50. Remember to run a full 12v to it, use plug wires for an HEI truck, and put in new plugs with a larger gap, around .045". That will make it run a lot better, and get better gas mileage too.

Re: I just got a 71 c10

seems like a realy nice ride , take the rearbrakedrums off check the brakematerial for suficient dept take a small screwdriver and lift each of the cups on the brakecylinder to see if brakefluid leaks out if so it would be wize to replace those , after mounting everything back together go sit in the truck and brake is the brakepedal spongy you might need to take the air out of it , keep pressure on the pedal if it sinks to the bottom slowly theres a leak somewhere sice you checked the rearcylinders allready it might be the master cylinder the checking itself only takes a bit of time but it 'll feel a lot better to know the brakes are ok cause you checked them youreself .

one more tip i can give is something i'm experiencing myself : try to keep the truck driveable while you work on it , that way you stay interested in the project .
trowing money into a pile of parts when doing a frame off for instance grows old real quick when you dont earn a executive pay

Glad to see you're making progress. One thing at a time and she'll come together.BTW $100 bucks for grill in "great" shape is a good deal.

Re: I just got a 71 c10

The front end is probably OK and just change the grill as it will be cheaper to do. I would turn he fan belt over to make it run better as well as its been installed upside down. A good steam cleaning under the hood is where I would start and then start pullin it down to redo. I have always found it much easier to work on a clean vehicle as its much easier to see what you are doing this way.
