Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
So last night and today i finished tear down and the sandblast process on the cab. As you can see the body isn't bad but I can not find a cab with a decent piece of sheet metal near the edge of the gas tank. I'll post that separately. I decided not to keep the A/C symbols once I got started. now just a little primer tonight and I am ready ready to set the cab... again.

Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
A few more pics. I found a few place they tried to fix some areas with some thin aluminum but really not that bad overall. The last picture shows the rust.

Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
So I did my first welding on the firewall for the clutch linkage hole and the wiring harness hole. Was'nt pretty to begin with but it ended up okay. I hope to have the firewall and the dash painted this weekend so I can get to wiring. Pictures later.

Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
Here is what I got done today. I had a local body shop spray it for me. Primer so I can keep it from rusting and I had him paint the firewall and dash so we don't have to do it later.

Here are a few more pics. I have another post about the body mounts and the alignment and I also have to fine the rubber mount/grommet for the mc plinger through the firewall. If you read this and know where I can get one please let me know.

Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
I hope everyone else has a great week planned. I had planned to do a family vacation and we just have too many things going on around here so I decided to stay at home and work on the truck for a few days and get it ready to go to the body man. I am going to pick up some new fenders and any other parts the beginning of next week. I will get all the body panels on and take it in for exhaust. I have a lot of work I want to do but can't until I get it painted. But it starts and linkage and steering is ready to temp install for a quick test drive one I get the brake lines in. I have to do a temp on the fuel cell in the cab and the spare seat. I am going to take the other seat over to the upholsterer one I get it cleaned up while the truck is gone. I will also accumulate all of the other parts needed to make this truck really driveable. This is a long worded post but it helps me put together what needs to be done. I assume parts will hold me up but I am just a short drive to KC which I will be there on Monday to pick up other parts. I am debating on brake lines and I need to get Manes to send me a brake booster seal? I spoke with them today and the shipping costs twice as much as the part. But it is only a $5 part. I can't drive to KC for that. I am looking to see what else I can get from them to make the trip worth while.
I will have to make the list. I am sure if my wife saw it whe would'nt like it so I am not going to show her. Some more tomorrow for sure.

Ready for the body man and some exhaust. Need to take it to the tranny guy to check it out. For some reason no reverse.

Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
Dropped the truck off this weekend to get the body work done. It was like leaving one of my kids off for an extended stay. Out of everything that has been done with this truck it was the hardest thing to give up control of daily activities. My wife said she could believe my concern sonce I had spent more time with that truck than I have with them lately.
Reminds of the joke when the wife says "You go fishing one more time I am going to leave" and the man replies " I am going to miss her" What I am going to do for the next few months...

Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
I thought I would bump my thread and put the new pictures on tomorrow. As everyone has said the body work takes a while. I dropped my truck off in August so I am lucky it is getting worked on. I hope to have it back in the next month or so. We'll see how he does.
I do however have a line on a 70 1 ton with a dump bed. Like I need another project. I am tired of working on the house.

Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
So I talked to my body guy yesterday. They had a few questions about what trim was going to be kept and what is going to be done away with. The picture on the first page will show you what i am going for. No trim except a piece that says custom over the door handle. I know not to get too excited about getting it back but i can't help it.

Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
The truck is in Colorado at my brothers father-in-laws place. He has retired and has a great shop at his farm. So he works on cars still. He continues to stay busy.

Re: 1969 GMC 3/4 Ton Build Thread
I got the call on Christmas Day that the truck can be pickedup in about two weeks. So we are planning to go the 18th to Colorado to get it. While I am there I will pick up my 2004 Dodge Ram with the HO Diesel. So I will drive out the Tacoma and bring back two trucks. I should have new pictures added soon from my brother. Then again once I get the truck back. The Diesel will be nice to bring the truck back. The Tacoma although good power just isn't heavy enough for the things I do.
So the next thing is to get the tranny figured out. For some reason we have 1st and 2cd but no third and fourth. Someone said something about the servo but I will take it to the guy that rebuilt it for me. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year. It has only taken a year to get it to this point.

What a great project. I like the color a little differant from the norm. Your truck is going to be a very nice daily driver and I can't wait to see the next set of pics.
