Re: Just want to drive it again

I put JB Weld on the radiator Sunday. No pics..... sorry. It had 2 pinhole leaks, one on each side. Next Sunday I will put it back in the truck and see if it works...... fingers crossed.

Re: Just want to drive it again

JB Weld will work, just besure it is totally dry on the inside and out so air can get to it. I did that with a gas tank once and it kept leaking until I finally bit the bullet and pulled the tank, drained it and did ti again. Solid as rock after that!

69 drum brakes
71 disc brakes

But.... I do need the radiator support brackets that are on the frame from the 69. The 69 clip and doors and probably the bed will also go on the 71.

Right now I just need to get it started so I can go ahead and put the clip on.

Does anyone now how you might get the brackets off the frame? How to remover the rivets? I am thinking an air chisel is the best bet??
Reaper,

Easisest way I have fouind is to use an air grinder and cut a star patern in the top of the rivet, then the air chisel will knock the top right out, then use the air chisel punch to knock it out. I had mine out in less than a minute.

More

All the 71 front end parts and stuff

Still need to put the grill on and tighten up finders, bolt on cowl, and other stuff. The grill was not bolted on in all those pics. Took it back off the truck and went down the road. It sure doesn’t ride like an 06

Re: Just want to drive it again

I drove it home. It was running hot at 60mph so we slowed down to 50 55. We pulled over when it was getting hot and poped the hood. Guess what. IT STILL LEAKS OIL. That is why i took it out in the first place. This is the 4th time I have had it out trying to fix the oil leak. I just don't know what it is

Re: Just want to drive it again

Ok, I think it has to be the oil pan. The pan that is on it now came from a 350 that was in the truck when I bought it. That 35o blew up. I put a 305 I had in it with the pan from the 305. The old 350 pan stayed it the back of the truck with all my other junk. I drove it every day. When I put this 350 in about 3 or 4 years ago, I used the pan that had been in the back of the truck forever. I bet this pan is bent. When I get into my new house I will pull it again and put a brand new pan on. That should do it. I hope. Any ideas?

Re: Just want to drive it again

digging it up from the grave. It is now in my driveway. Been there for a while. I will post some progress pics.

Oh, question..... I can't edit any of my previous posts on this thread. Is it because my name is changed and I started this thread with the old name? I was Reaper71.

I can probably edit this post though. Lets see.

Edit: YES I CAN

Re: Just want to drive it again

Oh, that oil leak was... The bolt in the front of the block was not there. I didn't think one needed to be there cause nothing bolts up there. So, I was wrong. That hole goes into the crank case. A short one goes there and you would put a long one in while changing the fuel pump. I have an electric pump. So, a 40 something cent bolt fixed the oil leak. No more buying cases of oil.

Re: Just want to drive it again

lets see..........

I put some headers on it a month or two ago. Ran into a small problem. The colectors were jambed up against the 6 cyl crossmember that was still in the truck. Fixed that litle problem. Chisled all the rivets out and got the member out. Here are some pics. Enjoy....

Here is that crossmember that was in the way and didn't need to be there.
