67ChevyRedNeck, looks like you're doing pretty good with your limited time. You should have cold air in no time.

Shifty, If you are going to shave your firewall, you should buy a universal kit and just mount a 4 hole bulkhead fitting in your block off plate. This will allow for a fairly easy redo of the firewall. Also, I don't think you can convert the retro-kit to a shaved firewall without some extensive modifications. It was made to fill the stock hole, and be a "bolt-in" add-on. I think "un-doing" it will more pain than it is worth just by looking at the VA install manual. I'll try to post some more pics of what I'm talking about in my build thread and link it to here so the information is readily available.

What size of a hole did you cut for the round vents? My truck has the full size holes that the factory used and I want to go to the smaller vents, which means redoing the holes for that new vents. I haven't purchased the vents yet, the Vintage aire unit that I got was originally planned for the bigger vent trim pieces.

If you already have the stock vents, you'll probably want to stick with them. The holes for the smaller VA vents are 2.5 inches in diameter. I'm almost positive the stock vents are larger. You'd have to weld up the stock holes and redrill the VA holes.

Gettin there......I'm familiar with the "not enough time" syndrome. I'm gettin married in a few weeks and talk about not getting to spend enough "quality time" with my truck!!!!

You are absolutely right, they are bigger, and the vents that go into them are plastic. I would be ecstatic if someone would make a vent that fit the hole without having all of the plastic. I am considering a weld job to fill the holes. I am making my truck a tad bit different than stock.

Everything is in, except the side vents, gotta finish those up, everything is done under the hood and it is ICE FRIGGIN COLD!

I love it.

Yes, it is a little loud, but I don't think it's any louder than the stock heater motor blowing on "high." Low and Medium are actually fairly quiet.

My truck is having a slight overheating issue in traffic, but I'm hoping my new 7 blade clutch fan will fix that (hopefully!)

I'll attempt to start the write up this weekend, it's going to take a while!
