Re: How crazy does this sound?

I recently flew to Arizona from Houston (99.00 Southwest Ticket) with a toolbox (had to check toolbox) And drove my recently purchased 2500.00 dollar truck 1400 miles back doing 80 the whole way. Of course I bought it from a board member who was solid on his word and the truck drove perfectly. Still driving it with no problems, including to dallas and back overnight. I say do it.

Re: How crazy does this sound?

Post up on the transport board.
you never know, there may be somebody comming this way that could pull it.

what i would do, is fly to wyoming, rent a full size truck (alamo, hertz, whatever) and a Uhaul trailer (key is to tell them you are pulling a chevette) 18-20 hours later you will be home.

I agree with random guy. What better way to learn about the vehicle you bought. You will also get to see some of the country, make a short vacation of it.

Re: How crazy does this sound?

The vehicle`s been sitting.Wouldn`t you rather fix it in your driveway than some desolate hiway with people blastin`by like you don`t exist?Could you rent a dolly and haul it back?I wouldn`t say driving it back is crazy, but adventurous.Time is the main concern. My trip from CO would have taken over a month on top of the fuel money, food, and motels.I payed $950 to keep from losing a month`s wages.
The radiator hose (metal section) was probably made up by a muffler shop. The original may have been misplaced or lost.

Re: How crazy does this sound?

I would dolly it back home. If you have a bad experience diving it a back it will only piss you off and that would be a bad start to any project.

I did that with my 59 from Arkansas to Socal and it worked out fine. Was actually pretty fun trip, just try to take someone with you and call it a road trip.

Re: How crazy does this sound?

I used to have pics on my computer, but apparently they are gone now...my uncle bought a WWII era Ford MB Jeep 450 miles away from home (he lives in Montana)...but it didn't run. He got a Uhaul box van and drove the jeep up inside the rear, and drove it home that way. Not too sure that's legal

As for me, I got my GMC in St. Paul, MN and drove it back to Akron, OH without so much as a problem. I did get worried when the guy trailered it to the Greyhound station, though. He even said we were crazy for attempting the trip in such an old truck. I don't think anything went wrong at all...that was 4 years ago, though.

Re: How crazy does this sound?

Scott,

Here is what I can do for you.

I am in Colorado so I could go pick it up for you and bring it home. I could then put like 10k into it and fix it up for you. Then I can drive it around for like 15 years and then after all that time deliver it to you for 15k delivery fee. Sound like a deal????

Seriously though good luck on the new project.

Re: How crazy does this sound?

I say fly there with extra parts. See if the guy will pick you up at the airport. check it out and drive it back. If things start to look bad or it doesn't look like something to drive back. get a uhaul and bring it back the rest of the way. Once your home you will know for sure what kind of truck you have

Re: How crazy does this sound?

Get your wife or a friend to follow you and buy AAA plan. The better the plan you buy the further they'll tow you.
I drove my 68 Chev from California to Canada with a buddy following in his truck. Never had a problem but the AAA was a good security for the cost of it.

Re: How crazy does this sound?

Is it just me or does the first pic look like the truck is bowed?
Like maybe a frame issue? Or maybe me see things
