I have my spare flat mounted in the front drivers side of my bed. I made up a simple bracket mounted to the bed florr and the rim secures through a lug hole with an old lug and stud. But I will be doing the sunken in bed route with a trailer fender when I get the chance to.

I have a spare sitting in my bed under my tanaho cover ( I know I didn't spell that correct) but the best part about my spare is it is flat.

I don't carry one & have my cell in case of emergency. For road trips, I toss one in the bed along w/my aluminum floor jack. When I get to the hotel, I carry them inside until I'm ready to hit the road again.

I always thought about doing the 'hidden' floor thing. I would raise the entire bed floor since it's needed for ground clearance anyway. Then basically make a 'trunk' under the front of the bedfloor & use the bedfloor as the trunk-lid. Would only be deep enough for a Mickey T 8-ply front runner. But a spare's a spare when it's needed.

Tire plugs, green slime and a small 12v compressor. That will get you where you need to go and the green slime won't muck up too much. Had to plug and slime my rear bike tire on a ride and I still made it home @ a high velocity.

Ok I sell tires and wheels for a living. DONT USE FIX A FLAT OR SLIME!!!! Once you have put either one of these products in your tire you can no longer properly repair that tire, your only option at that point is a plug or a new tire! Get triple a to tow it, or jack it up on the side of the road pull it off hitch hike to the nearst tire shop get it fixed and hitch hike back.

Also the other problem with fix a flat and slime is that thay can actually damage chrome wheels. Some of the chemicals used in these products will etch aluminum if left in contact to long and will begin to cause the chrome to lift and peel.

I worked for Discount tire for a while and was never told this. I probably fixed at least one tire a day that had fix a flat in it including one of my own and never had one problem nor did any of the customers. But it does stink like crap and you have to clean it all out to patch it. Not to say your wrong just maybe taught different.

I had heard the same thing: 'if you use the fix-a-flat or slime, you can't ever repair the tire w/a patch'. I used to do it w/o issue. You had to basically scour the inside of the tire, especially where the punture was, & then do the repair.

Regardless, fix-a-flat or a small air comp won't do squat if a tire comes apart from a road hazard. That's where the spare is priceless.... unless you don't mind paying to have it towed or don't mind leaving it in the middle of timbucktoo.

This guy did one on his '64. I think you could do something similiar (I'd stay away from the wood, but it works!)

Well mine has a spare in the bed but it is flat and doesn't hold air and I don't have a lug wrench in the truck or a jack. So a few things I need to work on. But first I need to get the new wheels and lowering kit on.

The S10 has a mini spare in the bed loose and jack in the stock location for now.

I got the same answers when I asked this a few months back. I just don't feel good about NOT having a spare. Here is my solution- I still need to pick up a cover for it, thinking about one of the older style hard 'continental' types.

I just bought one of the standard carrier brackets and bolted it in place. The Jack and lug wrench are bolted up against the tire.

Yeah that is true too, you can wash the tire out then mark and buff the damaged area and place a patch, but you will be hard pressed to find to many shops that are willing to go thru that much time and labor for a flat repair, flat repairs carry almost no profit to begin with, thats pretty much the deal with that. So I guess you could always ask or pay more!?!?!?

Things are really different here where I live. Plugs are almost non existent. You can ask to have it done and most shops will refuse to do it. The way they fix a flat is to take the tire off and patch it from the inside. Cost about $25.00 bucks.

We base it off the condition of the tire, if it is an old tire that has begun to crack or has very little usable tred life left we will plug it, otherwise we patch it. Unless of course it has fix-a-flat or slime in it.
