Re: TN - Luv Bought New Tires (Part 1)

Assuming all your parts are good, the backing plates and brakes
are toast on this rearend, only the tubes, axles, gears are good.

Re: TN - Luv Bought New Tires (Part 1)

Careful, I just may take you up on that.

At any rate, I was planning on using my brakes and all, just switching out everything between the backing plates. I have done it before, and if you're careful with some mechanics wire, you don't even need to bleed the brakes.

I'd be real worried about a, breaking U bolts and b, getting them back on while so far away. The last truck I did this on required a 9 foot long cheater bar.

At any rate, I just received confirmation that the wife will most likely not be joining me (mostly because of our two dogs, and the truck is really loud with the read end like this (also the exhaust sucks). If she comes at all it will be because she found a nearby tent camping place where we'll stay the weekend with the dogs, and she'll most likely go directly there. If you guys know any good places to camp around there, let me know.

I was planning on three hours. I think I saw directions on your other thread, so I'll follow those mostly. Six hours in this rig should be fun.

I may stick around long enough to stuff some food in me and meet a few people though. As long as I have enough daylight to get home in, and not piss the wife off too much, all should be well and good.

P.S. How come you don't know what gears are in it? Just curious, it'll be better than what I have regardless.

Thanks
-Brian

Re: TN - Luv Bought New Tires (Part 1)

Counting teeth is the easiest, but it may be tough depending on how much you can see. Spin the pinion until you get one rotation on the axle and count the number of turns you made to the pinion. If it's an open diff you need to multiply by two I think.

Thanks

Re: TN - Luv Bought New Tires (Part 1)

Sorta. I'll be there during the cookout - but the wife won't let me stay too long. She ended up finding a place to camp nearby and will be driving separately there with the dogs to set up and whatnot. I'm hoping to stay a bit anyway.

Re: TN - Luv Bought New Tires (Part 1)

Wow dude... that rear end is a 4.11 open. It's going to require a overdrive. I guess this is a great excuse to get one going.

Thanks again!
