Re: longbed to shortbed conversion

Roman, you have nothing to worry about regarding the crossmember and trailing arms- I had the same thoughts when I did mine, but it fits correctly if the frame is cut correctly. It's hard to explain, but it'll work with no other mods needed.

You'll need to shorten your driveshaft or (preferably) just make a 1-piece shaft and delete the carrier bearing.

Re: longbed to shortbed conversion

Brad, thanks for the reassurance. I'm restoring the bed and floor right now. Next month I'll play with the chassis. Thanks for the tip.

That is how the crossmember is on the shorts from the factory. It will clear fine. You will need a shorter driveshaft. Here is a linky for one.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custo...spagenameZWD1V

Re: longbed to shortbed conversion

yeah you gotta remove the front bend mounts, completely cut those off... then remove the rear cab mounts and mount them twelve inches back from the stock position.......

Ram-Man, you did a cool job on the chassis. Thanks for the photos! Any hard lessons learned?

Re: longbed to shortbed conversion

Jandones, what do you mean by twelve inches back from the stock position? Would that be twelve inches from the end of the frame?

When you take 12" out from under the cab the rear cab mounts move forward that amount and must be moved back by the same amount.
