Re: Gringoloco's GenIII 6 point-oh build
There was a guy who who had done something like that with taking wires out of the harness. And repositioning them to make the harness look better. The only problem was that he was getting interfearance with the mass air.

Re: Gringoloco's GenIII 6 point-oh build
At first when we where programing it we thought it was the mass air sensor was faulty. But put another one on and the same problem occured. It just wasn't reading right I think. The only thing we could come up with was that when he ran his wires he was getting some kind of electrical interference with another wire. Maybe?? I'll have to ask a friend of mine to see if the guy fixed his problem. He had put a 6.0: I think it was out of a cargo van and put it into a late 70's vette, with a th400 behind it. I'll let you know if I find something out.

Re: Gringoloco's GenIII 6 point-oh build
Has anyone hooked up cruise control on one of these. After a 1300 mile trip in the 48, that is a must have. I have an aftermarket unit in the 48. But with the throttle by wire, I would think that it would be easy to rig the cruise control for it.

Re: Gringoloco's GenIII 6 point-oh build
cruise control would be easy to install, if the harness was broke down (like i had it)... also just need a control pad/lever mounted somewhere to activate cruise, res, accel, and off...

Re: Gringoloco's GenIII 6 point-oh build
Found out why everything went wacko with this guy's wiring harness. He had routed the mass air sensor wires in with the injector wires and run them pretty close to his alternator. I'm pretty sure he moved them and fixed his problem not sure if this would happen in every case but something to think about.

It's an LQ4. The only difference in the two is compression. I have a fix coming for that...

Re: Gringoloco's GenIII 6 point-oh build
Who, What, When, How!? I have a 6.0/4l80e and a 5.3/4l60e, I just want them to run and drive, nothing fancy, no big upgrades, just get rid of the junk I don't need and run!? Anyone want to help me out or better yet do it for me!? I have looked into speartech and the like, but kinda costly. Where did you guys get the info used to get into the harness, and will it work?? Any help would be appreciated!!

Re: Gringoloco's GenIII 6 point-oh build
If you've got the time on your hands to do research, everything you need to know can be found here and at LS1tech.com in the conversions and hybrids forum. There is a sticky at the top of the forum that should answer most of your questions. It really is very easy. I have only done mine and partially assisted on one other swap in my buddies '66 fleetside and I will never go back to traditional engines. I have a 427 sitting on the stand that will probably never get used 'cause I know I can make more power, cheaper, and more reliably with an LS motor.

Re: Gringoloco's GenIII 6 point-oh build
OK. It's finally time to start back on this. I got a little sidetracked when I decided to completely redo the Blazer's suspension. You can read about that portion here if you are interested.
No real progress(yet) but I did get some parts in that should make this little 364ci motor a screamer. LS2/LS6 heads and a lumpy little 224/224 112LSA cam I'll get them bolted down and stabbed and start pokin' this badboy as soon as time allows...

All right, I'm still watching the suspension work but I'm subscribed here since an LS1 is going in mine.

Re: Gringoloco's GenIII 6 point-oh build
Hey Gringoloco, are the Shreveport salvage yards pretty good for finding those LSx motors? The local yards here have a few, but have been quoted $1200 for a 5.3. Ive got a complete 18k mile 03 model 5.3 with harness, but really would just like a 6.0 longblock. There are NONE of those around here. If I have to make a short drive to save an awful lot of money, then a trip to shreveport is fine with me!
Good job on cleaning up the wiring. Im planning on doing that myself once I jump into this project. Kyle |
