Re: A/C in the 71 Truck

I'm realy interested in the Cowl close off. Have you went through with it. With my kick panels so ruseted out, and factory AC going on a NON AC 69, the Cowl flap would be just one more added cost to find, order, and or install. Hows the close off working if installed?? Anyone else close off the Cowl?? If so where?? At the cowl or in the fender pane or bothl??

Still have to have the blower motor air vent opened though. I havn't had alot of time this week to realy look at it up close. Measure twice, ask 3 or 4 people, then mention cutting once before picking up a cutoff wheel.

I'm almost positive i don't want to hook up the vacume on this one, but not sure what to do with the void. Maybe fill them up with spray foam. It says water proof but i'm worried about it holding water in some voids. I'm not too concerned about 'max air' or recirculated air, just need it cold when the wife is in it.

Wink Re: A/C in the 71 Truck

Sorry every one. I never saw this until today.
The cowl vent blocked off works great. The truck cool's off even on the hottest days now and on the medium fan setting.
I couldn't be happier with it. Texas in June want be any problems after all the upgrades and stuff I have done to her this winter.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Talking Re: A/C in the 71 Truck

The vent under the cowl is for fresh air to be introduced to the cab.

I have a factory looking AC system in my 71 with a few mods I did.

1st I took the vacum canister off since the flapper was broke and not working. I then sealed off the cowl vent with AC tape and a small peice of sheetmetal.
I also took the vacum canister off the passenger side cab vent and put the handle back on it.
When I run the air now I open the cab vent on the passenger side and it recirculates the air inside the cab and keeps it coolier. Thus my ac runs at 38 degree's all the time now.

The cowl vent is to let fresh outside air in while you run your AC. This takes longer to cool the cab down because it's always having fresh hot air from outside to cool.
As for the heat I don't know yet. I just did this mod at the beginning of last spring so I haven't used the heat yet.

Here are some links to read about this mod.
