The switch, relay, and harness i used was a jegs kit, part number 555-10560 $45.99. I put the thermo switch in the pass. side head and the relay and circuit breaker on the pass fender. I will post pictures tomorrow of how everything was done. It was to late tonight to take decent pictures. and I also get to test out the fan going to and coming home from work before I post. I also didnt run my switched (relay low current positive side) to my ignition I ran it to my battery positive, so when the trucks shut off the fan will continue to run for a while, the only risk is killing the battery, so im going to watch that for a little while, i might end up running it to the ignition.
I hope this helps out, Tomorrow I will post pictures for everyone showing the wiring and how well the fan works.

That install is just what I have been waiting to see. I knew there had to be one sized just right to fit in the stock shroud. And not over priced either.
Question though. Does that fan bolt directly to the rad in the jeep or does it mount to a similar shroud setup? And I wouldn't worry with having the fan run on after engine shutdown. The belt driven fans don't.

This is what I think I need. 383 in a K-20 Towing and slow speed off road and traffic. 4 row stock radiator. Stock hood, no cowl indection stuff here. What is the number of the fan??? Part number that is. Can any Jeep dealer get it??? GREAT post!! |

Battery positive is okay the fan wont run for long, new vehicles have them hooked up to full power, thats why you'll here the fan run when you shut down a newer vehicle on a hot day, the thing would have to run all night to kill your battery

Boog: Yes The factory set-up for a jeep has the fan mounted to the shroud like I have done
prg machine: If you look at any big truck that tows they use mechanical fans, look at any 3/4 or 1 ton truck it uses a clutch fan. electric fans are great but alone by themselves they wont cool well for towing or hauling. If I were you I would try around and see if the electric fan will work or use a combo of electric and clutch fan as jeeps with tow packages had. Sorry I cant give you a 100% straight answer if this will cure all of your overheating problems, I just noticed how it fit and shared it with everyone, for me its far better then my mechanical ever did. scott68-93-97: Thats correct new vehicles have them run after the vehicle is shut-down. I wasnt worry about killing my battery, i just want it to be nice and cool for when i restart it after traveling.

here are my finished pictures. As you can see i mounted my relay and circuit breaker on my pass. fender by the battery. my fan will run after the trucks shut off but it hasnt run more then 10 minutes even after i have beaten on the truck. So far I havent come across a problem with this fan not being able to cool the truck. It pulls some serious volume of air.... heres the pictures... if anyone has any questions i will try my best to answer them.....

jorgensensc: inside the cab its not bad at all, i also have loud exhaust. I cant hear the fan over it. outside the vehicle you hear it run and its on the louder side for a fan i think. today walking away from it going into work i was probly 50 feet away and still heard it, but that was in silence of the am also

Can't wait to try this one. I think that it will be most excellent, my truck likes to run hot at idle even with the fan shroud. I wonder if what it will look like with the fan shroud, electric fan and the clutch driven fan.

Do you know what the amp draw is no the fan, Painless kit is only good to 30AMP according to the instructions.

BCOWANWHEELS: yes I believe the fan comes on while going down the road, have yet to try it on the highway for a long distance though
72armyswbtruck: im not 100% sure there is enough room for both fans, but try it and let me know. my v-8's in the I-6 mounts so its back farther then most. Also you will be more then fine with the 30amp from painless... mines a 30amp from jegs and i have no problem... i did test a fan on a jeep one day and if i remember right it only drew around 12amps

The recall was for the blades breaking, I don't know how many reported cases it took but you know how recalls are... They'll change the entire fleet just to prevent a lawsuit from someone....

WOW, outstanding post!
Hope this isn't a dump question but is there a way to run the fan off the temp sensor for the water temp gauge? This way there would not be a need to drill into the head for a switch. I'm a little leery of doing that. 71Rat, maybe you could give us a little info on how to locate the proper area on the head to hit a water jacket, with the head on. And what you used to drill, tap, and keep the debris out. Thanks

thank you everyone, after i did mine i thought about that hole also or trying to figure a way to have the wires go out the front of the shroud to make them less noticable.
71 jimmy: you have a left and right head so worse case is run the stock sending unit in the left head and run the thermo switch in the right head.

Nice job, I like this fan set up. This could also be used with a spal pwm control and have variable speed control of the fan couldn't it?
