Take em apart, polish the rings, then paint the inners, new tires and roll those bad boys.. One problem is the tires on them now are 295/50... Fronts are 265 or so... BIG tires i think...

Cant wait to get it home and apart so i can start with all the questions.
I was just messing with Longhorn Man about his comments about liking the looks of the GMC better. The Chevy crowd and the GMC go back and forth a little, but its all in fun. Most people love both of them, but prefer one or the other a little more. I prefer the 67-68 Chevy frontend over all of the myself, but a lot of guys love the 4 eyed GMC's!

Its very cool that your wife is excited about it also. I'm fortunate as well that my wife doesn't mind me fooling with these old trucks, because I'm quietly building a fleet!

67-68 front end hands down looks the best but thats just through my eyes some may see better with 4 eyes

Welcome to both of you from Georgia.
That is a very nice truck you got.
Looks like it has a nice stance as it is!

GMC front ends are better.

Re: ACTIVATIOOONNNNN!!!!. Finally. Questions.

it's a fact... GMC front ends are awsome.
For the record, the burb is getting a 68 chevy nose on it, I have been leaning towards them the last couple years now, but I still think the GMC's look bad ass when done in a hot rod attitude.
lyrikz ... First of all, I gotta say you have an awsome woman there. My hobby was one of the many problems i had with my now ex-wife. She never realized the coolness, nor the value of having an old truck around the house, and if done right (and you don't mind it being a beater) it is WAY cheaper than a newer used car.
Second... I would try those big tires. If they fit and don't rub, that would MAKE the truck IMO.

If you want the mags you can have em. I am putting the rallys on the truck. The mags arent very old, but they have been sitting for a full year or so. Tires are about 80-90% i would say. I have a guy that wants to trade some airbags plus cash for the rims, but after shipping, i dont think its going to be worth much...

I brought the truck home sunday, put it in the garage and havent seen it since.. Im absolutely DYING to get out there and start tearing the rear bed of so i can get SOMETHING accomplished. ahah..

Re: ACTIVATION! Finally. Questions. UPDATE new pics (9/18)page2

So i got under the truck and took some random pics. Few pics i have questions on and need some answers.

The guy i bought the truck from said it had drop spindles. I see the word early classics stamped on them. Are those the drop spindles???

That tie rod end look bad???

Here are some better pics of my rust situation. Repaired or cut out and weld in new metal??

Misc pics of the suspension and the underside of the truck. The pic with the driveline, that driveline looks super close to its opening there. Will that hit? That someting i need to modify if i put airbags on the truck?

Re: ACTIVATION! Finally. Questions. UPDATE new pics (9/18)page2

This brake porp. valve assembly look stock? That aftermarket?

Power steering also. I dont know if its stock or some kind of add on. Any info?

I noticed i had a oil leak, and when i got under it, i can clearly see the whole clutch and the flywheel. Am i just missing a cover of some kind??? I noticed the main seal was leaking oil pretty bad, i dont really care being the motor is coming out, but just wanted some info..

Take a peek at those shims on the upper control arm. Thats not stock is it??? Its shimmed way out on both sides.

And to top it off, this is my little helper.

Any info you guys can give and a route to take would be apprectiated. One last question, its a stepside truck and the front portions of the rear fenders are pretty rusty.. Do they sell patches for the rear fenders, or do i just have to buy a whole new fender?

Re: ACTIVATIOOONNNNN!!!!. Finally. Questions.

I'd clean up the rust and paint it with POR.
The shims are becouse it is lowered, even stock there would be a few shims
those are in fact the dropped spindles
that tie rod end is toast. I'd be gettin on that with the quickness
yes, you are missing an inspection cover... not a big deal
Cute kid
Proportioning valve looks stock for the disk brakes.
The drive shaft may rub now if you were to load it down, but it hasn't hit yet though. If you go lower, it will be an issue.

Just a 411 for you lyrikz -
If you want to sell stuff - you need to be a supporting member.

All of you long time members know this. No harm in asking the guy if he wants to get rid of something, but you guys kind of backed him into a corner on the wheels with the buying/selling deal.

Just letting you know. In order to become a supporting member - just click here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/payments.php
Well worth it!

That will probably be my first purchase on the truck, a membership here. Be cool if you got a bumper sticker or something for the window so you can show your support... Thanks for the link.
