My frame lays hard in fact I think with the tiny rubber I can slide a 2x4 flat under the tire and still be on the floor. I know that Nate from PB says that to lay out the designed formula for the DM is 29" dia. tire+ DM+ 3" spindle= frame flat on ground. change any part of the formula (say no spindles) should change the end result... ( 3" from laying out.) Ideally know how much ground clearance you want as an end result BEFORE you start ordering parts. My burb will probably drive with about 2.5 to 4 inches depending on my mood but I've been driving lowered cars for close to 15 years and like it. Josh |

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"
I'm hopeing to be running a 2" chopped member and my k series frame so I'll be sitting 4" lower between those. then bags.
I'll end up monster notching the rear with bags and a trailing arm/panhard design suspension. I could always add spindles later but I'd like to keep my heater, beings as I'm in the northwest and need it 8 months out of the year,LOL.

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"
without the DM/22's the heater could easily stay. The DM moves the front axle centerline back ~1" so the wheels are centered in the fenders but get into the hinges and heater that much sooner. still worth it IMO.
PLEASE NOTE:this post is incorrect DM moves suspension forward as stated farther down. many apologies Josh Last edited by RunninLo; 11-14-2007 at 07:17 PM. Reason: inaccurate info |

I thought the dropmember moved the front wheel centerline FORWARD one inch.

I also thought it was one 1" forward. I'm chopping up a stock crossmember for mine and doing 1.5 or 2" with it. and would like to adjust the wheel centerline to make it right.

Thanks Nate for setting it straight.... One MORE reason to go with the DM; extra clearence to the heater. I can still say with 100% accuracy that EVERYONE that wants to lay one of these trucks out NEEDS a dropmember. I can't believe how easy it was and look forward to improved geometry and steering. Now if only I could get the rear done! Josh

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"
well here it is the new year and I only managed to move the burb from the shop onto the trailer. I needed the room inside for a few days so I can try to get more of the electrical in. 5 below with no heat sucks. Anyways here she is. If time permits I'll be sliding the motor in when it's time to roll it back inside.
Josh PS Cat in heat look is hopefully fixed soon... rear susp held up due to delays at the vendor.

That Burban is SICK! What size wheels are those? Looks like that thing needs a snow plow! How far are you from Ulm, Mt.? I used to live there like 13 years ago! Way to cold! I love California almost as much as I love my Dropmember Are you doing a Kp setup too? Later

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"
Well as promised I finally got around to moving the burb back inside. Also as promised I slipped the donor 94TBI/700R4 power in for a test fit. I know it's not as pretty as some of the show motors on here but with gas already at $3.330/Gal. I wanted to keep it somewhat affordable to drive. This is mostly for mocking of trans x-member and such and will come apart at least once more for dress-up/paint
Enjoy the pics, Josh

I figure since I don't have time to scratch build my rear susension set-up and a couple vendors keep having delays (you know who you are) I need something to do till parts are available and two wheels is the perfect diversion. Josh

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"
UPDATE 05/13/08
Ok I probably shouldn't say anything so I'll be intentionally vague. I'm just too excited to not say anything. I ordered about $2k more in stuff for the burb on friday ( 5/9 ) I'm told I'll be one of the first and THE first burban with the parts. I'm beside myself with anticipation and sat and had a conversation with my burb for about a half an hour where I actually spoke to her out loud. It was much like the scene that Robert Duvall had in days of thunder where he lay'd out the plans for the car in the shop. I may in fact be going off my nut. Not quite sure how I'll make it to final delivery as I've never been a patient man. Fortunately I have a non-truck airride project that should fill up all of my off work time for a while. I look forward to the day soon when I can start posting pics of the next step for me and 3dr. Josh

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"
Well I can only say KP left me with nothing but passed days and promises. Clint did his best but they are undergoing some changes. Their work is sick and I'm a big fan of the watts look. Maybe KP for my square body dually crew but not this go 'round. My sister flew in today but is leaving monday so I'm feeling a little guilty about my plan to sucker her into wiring up my FI. (UTI PHX grad w/ honors) so I guess another weekend with no love for 3DR. She ( burb, not sis) understands though since there's a big box of joy headed this way!

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"
Well Nathan let the cat out of the bag here:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=294283 so I think it's only fair I get to play too. I hope to have more pics soon once Nathan makes them public first. My new plans are to pull the body off the frame hopefully over this coming weekend to facilitate the install of the rear DM once it arrives from PB. I have got to say this has been the longest month I can remember in a long time but jugding by what I see here it will have the best pay-off at least til November. Right , Nathatn?

The Burb is SICK!!!! Nice work.... now you need to drop in Porterbuilt's new rear member and you'll be ridin' low!
Looks like I need to make a trip out to my aunt's house... she's in Missoula as well.
