Just picked up a c/30 9ft stepper. Never new I liked them until one fell in my lap. Would love to have the rear bumper on the salvage yard truck!

One for sale here on Long Island Craigslist. The owner keeps putting it up for sale, been doing it for about two - three years now.

Re: 1967 gmc stepside 8 foot box..is it rare?
I probably shouldn't post on the subject because i'm really biased :-) the guy blasting my new fender's has a gmc long stepper and I know of another 5 daily drivers around here and none of them are for sale. My buddy Eric has 2 parts trucks and we were thinking about converting my daughter's to a long step using one of this bed's down the road.

Although the numbers at production were not low the amount that were beaten into the ground and rotted away is probably quite high in comparison to the more popular short step trucks. The demand for them is low so I'd imagine that's why very few were kept around.

Nice, looks like an old Cal Trans (California Dept. of Transportation) vehicle. The preferred tool when the job requires quick and easy in and outs. Obviously, the truck people and street truck people will clash on the desireability of a truck like this in todays market, but real truck lovers appreciate any model in any configuration.

here are some photos that i saved from craigslist ads over the years. there's something about them that is cool just from the unique factor.
this blue chevy was an original 396 truck... gmc with perfect patina...

You make some good points. As I was saying before, seems to me long steps were usually bought specifically for use as work & farm trucks. So got used, abused, and run into the ground. Being there were less of them made to begin with, no surprise they are not seen often. Especially when you consider many are sacrificed for stubby truck conversions in the name of recent trends for fashion & profit.

Re: 1967 gmc stepside 8 foot box..is it rare?
My '74 (obviously a squarebody) has a factory fleetside, and I'm on the prowl for a long-step to fit it, especially one with a factory fender-mount spare tire.
Not sure what I like about the LWB, long-step, long-narrow, whatever you want to call it, but personally they really do it for me. Very nice trucks, guys. Thanks for the eye-candy on a Sunday night! |
