I have one question for you, 1971Stepside about the quality of the job. I am getting ready to get my frame powder coated and my question is about coverage of the coating around the bed mounting bracket, just before the rear axle arch, it is riveted to the frame. There is only a fingerwidth at the most for clearance, did you have any problems getting the underside of this bracket and the topside of the frame coated, beacuse it is a tight spot. I hope you understand, let me know if you don't.

Get you alot more of those clean rags for assembly! You got a sweet deal on that powder coating! I wish I would have powder coated my frame instead of just paint. I don't know how well it is going to hold up? I guess only time will tell. I got my frame and all the same components blasted, primed with apoxy primer and shot for about the same $$. Now the FUN begins, putting it back together! Good Luck Justin

Frame
Nice looking frame and parts, to keep it clen and shiny , use soapy water and rinse it off. No wax or compound on it or it will change its color and loose its shine. Not a bad price for the frame and parts.

Powder coating
You can coat leaf springs, but after awhile it will crack where the leafs are close together and flake off. But the other areas will be fine.

Now that is nice. Questions? In ref to the frame mod for the exhaust: What are your plans for the routing of the E-brake cables? Did your truck come with a 1 piece drive shaft? (remove carrier bearing) Are you using drop springs front and rear? (stock shock and panhard mounts) Are the steering rods and links new? Keep us posted this is truly a inspiration for all.

Sorry it has taken me a couple of days to respond. I work with computers all week, so I stay away from them on the weekends!
JHickson6 - the coverage is outstanding. There is not one spot on the frame or parts that I can see where the powder did not cover evenly. I was suprised about that as well. When they charge the metal the powder sticks everywhere and since it is like dust it gets in all the tight spots. You will be happy if you go this way. No runs, no scratching. I put the auto trans member back in over the weekend thinking it would for sure leave a scratch as it was tight coming out, it just slipped right in. The stuff is like highly waxed fiberglass. ZKast - we aren't too far from you. Put that sucker on a trailer and bring it down. I'll get you there number if you would like. Hutch - I will not be putting an e-brake back in the truck. I don't use the one I have in my new truck so I don't figure I need one in the street rod. I already removed the brackets from the trailering arms. As for the drive shaft we had manufactured the one piece about 16 years ago when I first put a small block/400 in the truck. I was a kid then and could not tell you what my Dad had it made out of. I can post pictures of it though if that will help. The drop kit is from Early Classics and includes a 2.5 inch drop spindle, 1.5 inch drop springs in the front and 6 inch drop springs in the rear. I bought the adjustable panhard bar and shock kit from them as well. All parts on the frame are new. The only piece I am reusing is the steering box. All tie rod ends, ball joints, rotors, bushings, bearings, etc are all new. Around a grand worth of goodies Sean71 - I too was worried about the cracking issue. I talked with the coater and he gauranteed it wouldn't crack. They happen to race open wheel cars and they powder coat all the frames and components. I got to see a couple of frames that did a few roles and not one bit of the powder flaked off. They do the springs on the race cars with no trouble. It will eventually rub off where metal to metal meets like in the cup of the A-Arm under the spring, but you will never see it and that will take a lot of miles. red71Cheyenne - I put all of the pieces in the bed of my truck and the frame on a trailer. I also had parts in the cab of my truck. They were everywhere!! I was harder when I picked it up because you had to be a lot more careful with the stuff. A special thanks to Lost Wages and his Dad....he got the trailer from his Dad for me. Well, I made some progress this weekend. Trailering arms are back on and all cross members. I am painting all of the new nuts, bolts, washers with the grey hammer to match the springs. It is really turning out nice. I just have to take it slow. I generally want to get in a hurry to do the next piece, but the budget is on hold until the first of the year so I gotta make this last!! Thanks for all the great comments. I am trying to document as I go so I can answer any questions you guys may have in the future if you do a frame up.
