Re: changing exhaust.....

Hey, if it worked for me it should work for you too eventually, just gotta be persistent. I'm actually still pissed at myself for not grabbing a front spare wheel mount I once found on a K10, gotta keep looking for another one now

By the way, did you decide whatcha gonna do with the exhaust? Quite frankly me thinks that flipping the sidepipes left to right and running a muffled exhaust like mine that then feeds the sidepipes won't be such a bad setup, it may suck a bit if the engine starts smoking and you have the windows down tho

On a different note, I think I'm gonna go with stacks now, but not the typical 4" chimney pipes but just 2.5" straight through the bed and up behind the cab, slant cut at the top - will make diagnosing a/f ratio a breeze and will also not piss people off when I take off at the light and they happen to be next to me with their windows rolled down, lol

Re: changing exhaust.....

You best bet is a regular exhaust. You could have the pipes exit right before the rear tires at an angle with some chrome tips. It's still in the flavor of sidepipes...thats about the closest thing to sidepipes I can think of anyway.

Re: changing exhaust.....

still not sure... i tend to think things through a great deal. plus a few more things have come up that i have deemed more important than my exhaust. I need to fix my speedo gear in tranny, have a few leaks i would like to take care of in my power steering pump or hose, then one in the steering knuckle as well. also need to get a new radiator canister (cant think of the real name at the moment) cuz mine is cracked, and maybe a couple more things along the way.

Re: changing exhaust.....

The steering pump/hose leak - tis a flared coupling deal there, try tightening the nut a bit and it just may seal again, obviously don't reef on it too mich cause it ma strip and then you're gonna need a new pump and a hose.

radiator canister = overflow tank, just get one off a junker truck for dirt cheap, or you can go fancy with a chrome or aluminum one from Summit/Jegs/whoever or even the performance/go-fast shelf in yer local parts store.

Re: changing exhaust.....

i have already tightened it- a few times. i even tried teflon tape (im pretty sure you arent supposed to use it on those fittings, but hey- it was leaking). so i have decided i should fix that problem before i try and do any "improvements" on the truck

Re: changing exhaust.....

I can pick you another one up at Daddy's if the leak is the pump. Let me know, I will be going back there Friday. If it is the hose, I bet there is one of those too. He has a couple of 70 somethings there without the motor and need a good home.

Dad, maybe you should put some of those old work trucks up on the site. at least they would go to someone who would treat them good

Re: changing exhaust.....

Wait, are you two borthers or something? With almost macthing trucks too, only one is low and the other high - nice!

As for the leak when I was installing the hydroboost on my truck it turned out GM switched the coupling type in the '80s, instead of flare fitting they used a straigh fitting with a rubber o-ring - I had to cut the o-ring seat, swap the tightening nuts, and re-flare the lines so they bolt up to my pump and steering box, didn't do all that great job on the flaring part but they still ain't leaking - if you got spare parts by all means go ahead and replace both pump and hose, just be careful to not round off the nut when taking the hose off the steering box.

Re: changing exhaust.....

I really don’t think many on here would be interested. We are having an auction in a few weeks. It will be located 16 miles west of Abilene Texas. We will have about 10 Chevy and 3 Ford trucks. They were all running when they were parked. Some just have 3 or 40 thousand on them. They are all 1 ton and above. 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. I could post some pictures if anyone might be interested. If anyone is then send me a PM and I will pay the board and post pictures in the “For Sale” forum. These are all old trucks and have been sitting for a while but the bodies are in pretty good shape considering their age. There are only a couple of 70’s pickups and they are mid to upper 70 models. There will also be lots of farm equipment. One Ways, grain drills, clod busters, planters, rotary hoes and a couple of tandems. Mast has been sitting for a long time.

mhicks is my dad... his is a 73 and mine a 74- his is much nicer (since he has an income with $ to spare for 'right way to do it'), but mine can do a lot more work! faster too, even though its bigger.

I thinks its nice that mine is black and his is white
